So I’m sitting here eating a delicious peanut butter and jelly sandwich (literally) and I start thinking about how much I like these sandwiches. They’re salty, sweet and utterly fantastic. But frequently, they are looked down on, mostly because of overexposure during childhood (my guess, anyway).
So on to the list - which foods frequently get picked on as “mundane” or “kiddie food” but don’t deserve it?
My nomination is obviously PBJ. But meatloaf could certainly be added to the list.
fish or specifically salmon mmmmmmmmm…poached King salmon.
In my experience (in the lower 48) when I mention fish, some would say “fish??” or “eww fish!”(I think most people conjure images of a baked whole red fish on a plate with some sort of vegetable in its mouth)
but come to my kitchen during the winter king run and I’ll chef you up the best salmon you ever tasted…
NOTE: The following response has nothing whatever to do with my user-name which resulted from a long complicated situation which I am not prepared to go into at this time.
When I was growing up in south Mississippi my mother would prepare grits several times a week for breakfast. To this day just the sound of a pot glub-glubbing on the stove (there are those of you who know what sound I’m talking about) can sooth all but my most serious stresses.
Today the cure consists of a bowl of grits with cheddar cheese, butter, salt, pepper and two pieces of toast to the side.
I grew up eating fish and had a good cook for a mother, but I still never liked fish. Mollusks and crustaceans are tasty though
I haven’t had it in a long time, and the mere thought of it kind of disgusts me, but I recall having cow’s tongue a few times and finding it very tasty.
