L.A. Story with Steve Martin. It’s got everything…humor, romance, Shakespeare, and a street sign that’s a reincarnated set of bagpipes.

“The Bounty”, the 1982 remake of “Mutiny on the Bounty” starring Anthony Hopkins and Mel Gibson. Worth the rental price alone to hear Hopkins scream at his men in “old English”: “Goddam your blood, sir! You will suffer my correction whenever you’re at fault, damn your hide!”

“My hovercraft is full of eels.”

“UHF”

“Far and Away”

“Better Off Dead”

“One Crazy Summer”

Naked Lunch

Return to Oz(1985).

Nice choices! LA Story and Return to Oz have been unjustly forgotten.

I do like The Well, though it’s totally obscure, not just underrated.

Ishtar is tremendously underrated – a pleasant and unassuming comedy that got panned only because it had a high price tag.

Jumanji was a surprise, too.

“What we have here is failure to communicate.” – Strother Martin, anticipating the Internet.

“Stella” with Bette Midler and John Goodman, made in 1990, is a great movie! I can really relate to it because I, myself have a teenage daughter. I own the videotape, and it makes me cry every time I watch it! I think that movie is definitely underrated.

One that comes to mind immediately is The Hudsucker Proxy. Cohen brothers, you know. Lots of great scenes and dialogue in this one. Very funny. And speaking of the Cohens, check out their first effort Blood Simple. Pretty twisted.

“Enemy of the People”, Steve McQueen. One of his last movies and VERY good. Has anyone else ever seen this? I’ve never met anyone who has. (ca. 1979)

The Manchurian Candidate, only because very few people I know have even heard of it, let alone seen it.

Kinda brings a whole new light to Senator McCain’s presidential campaign…

Jeremy…

Nobody ever calls me after they’ve done something smart.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

The Big Lebowski

Go

Fierce Creatures

Ransom

The Zero Effect

“Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent” Isaac Asimov

All those movies are weak. If you’ve not seen The Razor’s Edge with Bill Murray you’re missing a great movie. My history professor in college told me that watching that movie is what made him decide to go into history after I suggested that instead of Casa Blanca to watch in class.

Crossworlds

Spanish Prisoner

Newton Boys
