Unfortunate Food Occurances

underripe kiwi’s, bananas

crunchy apples in an apple pie

skins on stuff

smelly ice

too much grease in anything

overcooked rice, pasta, veggies

Estonian national food is pretty heavy, especially around christmas(pork, potatoes, cabbage cooked with brown sugar, blood sausage- yes it is made of animal blood, meat jello).

When I was young, my grandmother used to cook for the family. Just an example:

Monday- fried meat and fried potatoes
Tuesday- meat in a cream sauce and mashed potatoes
Wednesday- grilled chicken and oven potatoes

and so on.

as you might guess got my potato fix for ten years to come…

Mmmmm…rye toast dripping with yummy delicious butter, as ordered! (bite)…(pause)…EWWWWWWWMARGARINE(spit into napkin)…

Apologize to table mates.

Or, the absolute worst thing I’ve ever eaten in my life…when I was in Alaska, I tried muktuk (preserved whaleskin & fat). Took a piece about as big around as a pencil, and around 2 inches long. Bit off a 1/4 inch piece at the end, chewed, and instantly gagged and threw up into a napkin. Disgusting. Definitely the ipecac of the Eskimo world.

For a true surprise try biting into what you thought was an onion ring only to rubbery seafood. EEEEWWWWWWWWW! I don’t have anything against seafood, but fried calamari is obviously a thing of the devil.

Thought of another: ordering a baked potato at a restuarant and discovering that it has been microwaved.

Microwaving . . . does something to potatoes, gives them a sort of a sweet taste–I just cannot abide them.

Usually what happens is they bake them in the morning (or the previous day, or the previous week, or Jah knows when) and then chuck 'em into the cooler, and microwave them before serving.

Trechery, I tell you.
