Unfortunate wording in personal ads

I’m not lissener, but having that sentence without a comma makes no sense.

I think it means to date her is the end of your world. I think she best avoid and left to spinsterhood for the good of mankind.

In formal written English, yes; in more informal–and that’s a pretty informal exclamation–I wouldn’t go to the mat on it. Commas and hyphens are the least rigidly codified elements in English grammar.

Not in AP style.

Seriously - was a member of the family a journalist of some sort? Cuz I’d argue that with someone, out of habit.

I was an English education major, journalism education minor. I did not put the comma in, on the theory that it it easier to add a comma on an engraved metal item than delete one. I told him to bring it back if his wife wanted the comma.

There was a new ad today from a man who says spelling counts, and that only people who understand that should respond. I might pay my money to meet this guy.

Laides is French for ‘ugly women’. Definitely a dealbreaker for all women who know French, whether or not that matters to you.
