It appears to me that Mr. Smashy is quite enjoying collecting insults. When he gets one, he lovingly gazes at it, sniffs it a bit and rubs it on himself a little. Then he puts it into a special box on a shelf.

After he gets enough of them, he gathers them all together into a pile and rolls around on them. When he’s done touching them all over, he gets them all full of static by rubbing them on his hair. He can them stick the insults all over his body, and sit in the corner with a sad look on his face, while saying “look at how mean all the lefties are to me!”

And then he whacks off.

Still evaluating. It seems as though this board is made up of a huge number of far-lefters who think anyone to the right of Howard Dean might as well be Pat Buchanan. Not all, but at least 90% of the comments in this thread were in the mode of “Anyone not in favor of this program MUST be a radical right wing Repub-tard” (or whatever insult comes to mind).

I don’t mind clever insults, mind you. But it gets tiresome to hear someone scream and rant with no real intelligence behind it. Further, I notice that when I’ve given fact and data to prove my contentions, the people doing the screaming wouldn’t acknowledge or at least try to make a reasonable reply; sometimes attacking the cite, sometimes conveniently claiming they can’t access the site. The lone exception seems to be M4M.

People are certainly allowed to express their opinions; that’s what a board is all about. Maybe moreso in The Pit. But I wish I saw more persuasion, less obnoxiousness.

It is somewhat better in GD. That is, you still get the refusal to engage on any point they don’t want to acknowledge, but there are fewer mindless insults and many of the regulars in GD can actually debate. There are others like Measure for Measure, IOW.
