Anyway, that shock started me thinking, how many people do I actually see here? The clips are only a few seconds long, there’s a lot of people in a limited space, so my knee-brain reaction is I’m looking at a massive number of people. Which finds backing in the stories about how this horror story was set in motion by a wide array of internet sites, FB posts, etc.
Without actual data, it led me to thinking that if these few people were all that could be gathered across the nation, it didn’t amount to much. If I thought that all those people were just local folks out vigorously expressing loathsome views, I’d probably be thinking that Charlottesville was a local center of alt-reich viewpoints. But if this was a demonstration of their national power…kinda weak.
