I’m not much up on anthropology, despite taking a physical anthropology class in college and having read Margret Mead
I am, as it happens, a pretty big SF fan… more “hard science” fiction like the masters of old: Asimov, Clarke, Heinlein… I liked Ben Bova back in the day, and Lester Del Ray was another favorite. I wasn’t so much into stuff like Robert Silverberg, and Harlan Ellison left me running alternately hot and cold.
I met Jack Chalker once, and I met Jack Chalker’s wife once. There was a time when I was really into his series; since then, they all sort of blended together. Same thing with Piers Anthony: I liked him once, but he hasn’t stood up against advancing age (mine) so well…
In the movie world, I’m a hopeless fan of the old classics: give me Day the Earth Stood Still, Forbidden Planet, and Day of the Triffids and some microwave popcorn, and I’m set for the afternoon. Newer science fiction movies I’ll answer on a case-by-case basis: NO, for example, to Starship Troopers.
So whatcha think? Could we hang out as long as we stayed away from politics?
Argh! I completely forgot about **Jet **when posting my choice earlier. Even though she’s Christian and Republican, two things I definitely am not, I love her… she’s one of the sweetest girls ever and I consider her one of my best friends.
A) I am looped on vicodin (or generic equivalent thereof), and feeling so good, it’s tough to pick any one over any other. I don’t dislike any of the lefty posters here, though I do get my hackles raised by some more than others.
B) GO SEE YOUR FRIGGING DENTIST NOW! Do you really want an infected root canal? If you want fun, hook up car batteries to your genetalia; Throbbing root canals are not fun, until Mr.Vicodin pays a visit… Yes, the dentists will try to steal your soul with their bizarre and unChristian machinations, but short of tying a string from the offending tooth to a door, you don’t have much of a choice.
C) Are we talking ‘adopt’ in a Woody Allen sense of the word? If so, sorry Miller , Zagadka, gobear and others, I’m gonna go with UrbanChic. Ya, not really ‘opposition’ per se, but looks helluva lot better in a dress!
Cool! Thanks Maureen, does that mean the wedding’s still on? Hey, at least we’re close enough to go out for drinks one of these days, if life would just stop getting in the way and all.
But seriously, I’ve always respected you and the way you put your viewpoint out. You’re one of the most thoughtful, insightful posters I know, and I think we porbably actually agree on many issues which are not politics. And I tell ya, there are days when I don’t agree with myself on politics.
