Just in case you haven’t yet had the dubious pleasure of viewing it, here is the video taken in a Florida Atlantic University class of a student completely losing it, threatening the prof and other students, assaulting a fellow student, and more:
It seems clear that she was irrational, leading me to wonder why the prof didn’t immediately dismiss all the other students as soon as the nonsensical tirade began and then call security to the classroom. That’s what I would have done.
His answers couldn’t satisfy her since her question made no sense to begin with.
Well, that certainly was interesting. She seemed upset about something.
The teacher let that go on way too long. I agree that once death threats were being made he should have cleared the classroom and called security. He is just standing in front of the class while all this goes on. Even students are asking if the police have been called. She could have whipped out a gun and started shooting.
Once she starts threatening to kill people there should have been a swift response and her removal. This was poorly handled and could have been a real significant incident.
Agree with Dallas. I can understand that the prof was probably hoping she’d cool off or at least leave the class on her own. But I don’t know what he was thinking trying to continue with the lesson while she was still screaming, that was just pointless. I can see him not wanting to clear the classroom and lose a day of teaching, but as soon as the death threats started (especially with so many cell phones out and taping this) that was really the only option…clear the class and turn the situation over to the campus cops.
Having said that, there are certainly enough students in there with cell phones, I wonder if one of them called.

Sounds like that outburst was some kind of paranoid psychotic episode. Maybe caused by drugs, or maybe the emergence of a disorder like schizophrenia (which often does start to crop up in early adulthood).
I agree that the professor should have called security and told everyone to leave. That could have definitely turned into a horrible tragedy if the girl had had a gun or some other weapon.

See? It was a simple misunderstanding.
