Unpopular opinions

Facebook has Hurt America more than it has helped it.

These opinions are unpopular because they are wrong.

A little harsh, but… yup.

If you subtract Jim parsons BBT might be the worst sitcom I have ever seen (as evidenced by videos subtracting the laugh track.) Only Two Broke Girls comes close.

And apparently nobody disagrees with my previous assertions so that’s something.

This might be the most unpopular opinion I’ve ever heard.

This is for unpopular opinions! No agreeing with each other allowed

Haha that’s a pseudo intellectual reference and I, the viewer, am in on it! Repeat ad naseum.

Blech.

I’m not sure what it means though, after all this is an unpopularity contest.

Dammit, now I’ll be reluctant to point out that it’s the only TV show or movie that usually gets the science right (or plausible for the fictional stuff), because that makes me a pseudo-intellectual who feels good about being part of the in-group for a change.

I wouldn’t say the worst but it’s pretty bad.

I would have had a go at you about the “especially soccer”, but… an Atlantan who likes cricket! Good on you, Sir…

To me BLM = Black Thugs Lives Matter

Yes because we all know that only thugs are subject to police brutality.

But as a matter of possibly ironic fact, the lives of people you happen to think are thugs do matter. That’s what it means to have a nation of laws with fundamental civil rights. The lives of the people you hate the most matter, and for that reason, can often be the most important ones to protect.

Eh, might as well post some light and fluffy unpopular opinions:

Modern music is going to sound a whole lot better in twenty to thirty years once we’ve shaken off all the chaff and only listen to the good stuff. Classic Rock stations (and what few Oldies stations are left) play a mix of songs which has nothing to do with what was on Top 40 stations or the equivalent at any given time period, and that’s because most of the Top 40 stuff then was as terrible and forgettable as most of the Top 40 stuff now. It’s corporate nostalgia plain and simple, looking at the musical past through some serious rose-colored glasses, which includes elevating obscure acts to prime positions because they’ve become more popular in retrospect.

Most sports is boring most of the time. There’s a reason it’s usually watched in groups, after all: Friendship makes things more interesting, simply because it’s a shared interest. Therefore, trying to convince someone to watch sports isn’t likely to work.

Corollary: Laugh tracks work. They improve sitcoms from the perspective of making the TV audience more likely to laugh. That’s why they’re still used despite seemingly-universal condemnation.

TV is better now than it ever has been in the past, and that’s because it’s turning into what’s going to replace it: Self-contained long-form stories serialized into episodes, such that whole plot arcs can be binged on streaming services. That’s what’s going to survive the collapse of the traditional broadcast media, and they’re only going to get better once the distribution systems improve to the point independent artists can make them on the same footing as TV studios can now.

A person is ultimately valued for what can be gotten out of him.

The Right to Bully is the most cherished and vehemently defended right there is.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is causing the Motion Picture Industry to jump the shark.

I went to a Libertarian college* and eventually came to this conclusion after watching the Ayn Rand fans (Randists, Randians, and Randites alike) screw each other over whenever possible.

So, during the midnight political discussions, I’d throw in lines like “So, when are you going to quit your church? Since what you’re preaching is pretty much the opposite of every single thing Jesus said…” Kept the give ‘n’ take givin’ ‘n’ takin’…
*Hillsdale. Where I got to hear William F. Buckley giving anarchist (but erudite) screeds against ANY government, and in favor of “The Virtue Of Selfishness”).

Dances with Wolves is one of my favorite movies and deserved its Oscar over Goodfellas and the others.

Lord of the Rings were terrific movies and I haven’t changed my opinion since they came out a dozen years ago. PJ did a good job translating the books to the movies, despite missing something on page 538. I totally get why they skipped Tom Bombadil and the Scouring of the Shire. I’m even okay with giving Faramir an arc and having the Army of the Dead mop up Sauron’s forces.

I am totally on board with this, most of the military is not trigger-pulling infantry in harms way.

Howard the Duck wasn’t that awful. It was nothing like the comic, but taken independently it was funny in places and decent comedy.

Craft beers don’t taste any better than Bud, Miller or Pabst.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, and share your pessimism on this issue.
