Hip Hop is a viable musical genre capable of creating beautiful and meaningful art. Anybody who says otherwise hasn’t looked hard enough.
Irrational and “wrong” as it may be, I find the idea of a world-spanning American empire to be fantastically appealing, and secretely hope to see if in my lifetime even if I spend my entire life working against it.
i think the government ops thing in season 4 of Buffy was really what stunk. and Riley, p.u. Spike’s plots are tedious, but the hot scenes between him and Buffy were really enjoyable to watch, to me.
i agree about Quidditch subplots, but i guess i get why she created it. it would be part of the whole British public school experience.
a few bands are almost even better live than on recording. Simple Minds is great, though they had almost no control over the sound in U.S. venues this summer. Peter Murphy is always worth watching. Dave’s latest dance skills and improved vocals make Depeche Mode pretty yummy, if you have good seats. an interesting American to see live, if you have the opportunity, is Keller Williams.

In many cases, sexual relations between adolescents or teenagers and adults can be quite enjoyable for both parties, with no harmful effects.
Sexual relations between adults and pre-adolescents is wrong, but, ironically, the discovery and prosecution of the crime is often much more traumatic to the child involved than the sexual activity itself.
Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” is a good rap song.
Anyone who reaches adulthood without knowing how to spell in their mother tongue should have his hands cut off. Or at least be denied access to the internet.
Stadium shows suck. The only place to see bands is in small clubs where you can get up and dance.
Everyone should be sterilized at birth, and only allowed to reproduce after passing an exam.
People who think guns don’t kill people shall all be drafted and sent to war. The rest of us will brainstorm locations they can have wars in-- like, say, the southern U.S.
I think the State should get out of the business of marriage altogether. It shouldn’t even acknowledge that some people are married to each other. Marriage should be a religious ceremony (or sacrament) governed by the various churches and religions as they see fit, but with no legal effect at all.
If marriage continues to be the business of the State, the State should enforce the particulars of each marriage contract. Currently marriage (in most states of the U.S.) is a business contract which is dissolvable by either party at any time without cause. Business contracts aren’t meant to work that way.
Prostitution and suicide should be owned by the public.
Contradiction into irrationality is the only crime; the sentence should be solitary confinement until death.
Laws should never contradict themselves or other laws; nor should constitutions.

Don’t necessarily think this stuff is a good idea - just that it would be interesting:
-
I would like it if men between the ages of 18 and 23 were forced to be graded as to attractiveness, with the A and B grades being forbidden to wear any shirt that is opaque.
-
I would like it if everyone with a car were forced to prove that they need it. If not, they should have their registration revoked. Furthermore, I would like it if all the money being put into road improvement were diverted to expanding public transit.
-
I would like it if every Canadian Alliance, Progressive Conservative, and Liberal member of parliament were required to spend two years providing direct, front-line social services after leaving office.
-
I would like it if Frank magazine published exclusive photos of Mario Dumont and/or Stockwell Day having sex with 15-year-old crack-addled whoreboys in Edmonton alleyways.
-
I would like it if voting were required, but “none of the above” were a specifically available option that would require another election to be called if it won.
Damn straight!
Let’s bring back the chain gang.
Hey, now! Don’t send them here! What about Canada?

Finland is a great vacation spot.
Blonde hair with dark roots is attractive.
Prime time TV needs more cop shows.
I like the whales, sure, but they have to go.
If you have the right to delare your views, lifestyle, ideals, whatever as being acceptable; I have the right to say (publicly) that I don’t agree with you. (that was a real one)
delare = declare
Nuclear energy is clean and inexpensive if done right. Get over it and help find ways to keep it safe.
We are not the greatest nation on earth - we are arrogant, warlike and meddlesome in the affairs of other nations. I do not condone it or desire it, but am not suprised that others wish to harm our country.
The 4th Ammendment has been mis-interpreted or is out of date - you do not have the right to own, carry, buy or sell a gun. That privilege will be reserved for law enforcement and military only.
All religions are stories and rules made up by primitive tribes to explain the universe and create stability. We don’t need them anymore. In many cases, established religions do more harm than good. For instance - the Pope is not a great man - he has done little for his people or humankind.
I believe that the way we treat our prisoners is a reflection of our society. We are not a great society. I admit that we do better than other societies.
Euthanasia is a legitimate way to die.
Non-violence is not synonymous to pacifism.
Code, like all writing, should be open. Programers should be able to borrow from each other using the same rules of fair use as set out in copyright law. This has not killed the fields of creative and scholarly writing, and it will be a boon for overworked software engineers.
Consistantly working salaried employees more than 40 hours a week without any further compensation should be illegal.
Americans eat too much beef.
I know credit cards and debit cards are faster and ATMs are everywhere. I like writing checks. Get over it.
Any statement made by a politician in an advertisment or public address should be a binding contract, to be fulfilled during the length of his or her term (if not sooner). Failure to meet all of these promises will automatically exclude the politician from re-election. Other than that, there will be no term limits.
Christmas is a horrible holiday. Buying anyone a gift for any holiday (Valentine’s Day, Sweetest Frickin Day, whatever) cheapens the sentiment. Emphasis should be placed on spending time with people important to you - the economy should not depend on it.
A few comments to Sycorob
It shall be your honor to initiate nuclear energy research.
You inspire the America-love-it-or-leave-it sentiment, particularly after 9/11/01.
Guns have nothing to do with the “4th Ammendment.” You’re thinking of the third Amendment. Go back and read what Cecil himself said about it.
“All religions are stories…” Thank you, Friedrich Nietszche/H. L. Mencken.
Re prisoners: Amen.
Please go into more detail about this, even if you start another thread or e-mail me at montgomerydou55@hotmail.com
Re non-violence: Make it a little plainer, please.
I write checks, pay cash and use credit cards and ATMs. No skin off my nose.
Maybe the politicians’ statements need not be “binding,” as long as a disclaimer appears on the TV screen or ad published in print media, or a spoken disclaimer immediately follows a radio ad.
Re Christmas: Amen. Gifts should be given out of sincerity, and should not be something obligated by dint of a calendar date–including Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries. Heck, I even read in an Archie comic–it was Archie’s Mom Mary who said this to Archie about a mink coat Fred gave her–"The most treasured gift is one without an occasion. " (sorry, part of that is paraphrased.)
A friend of mine from high school wrote me in 1983 (16 years after graduation) : “It’s much better to say what you feel, or felt, rather than to think you’ve suppressed something.” She was, and is, a positive knockout and also must have an I. Q. close to 200…

Requiring salaried workers to work overtime without any further recompense should be illegal.
SUVs should be banned unless you can prove that you need one.
The 4th Ammendment has been mis-interpreted or is out of date - you do not have the right to own, carry, buy or sell a gun. That priviledge will be reserved for law enforcement and military only.

Saying something is traditional does not mean it A Good Thing, Some traditions should be broken.
We do not need more money spent on military. We need less. Military spending should be locked to a certain percentage of tax revenue to prevent spending money we don’t have on weapons we don’t need.
Non-violence is not synonymous to pacifism. See Ghandi.
I too love public transit. I dislike driving. I hate SUVs.
Doing something non-mainstream is not the same as doing something good. Watch some “artsy” movies. The inverse is often true as well.
Christmas now sucks. It should be about getting some time off and spending time with people important to you. It should not be an indicator of the strength of the economy.
Every established religion that I know of seems to be an attempt by ancient civilizations to explain the origin of the universe and establish stability in their society. We don’t need them anymore.
Euthanasia is a legitimate way to die.
I believe that the way we treat our prisoners is a reflection of our society. We are not a great society.
Having children is not a right, it’s a privelege. Sterilizing some people should be considered.
I do not believe that anyone in the US who really works hard and applies him/her/self will be a success.
I believe that your oldest first cousin on your father’s side is a big asshole.
Given a properly non-judgemental forum, people are eager to share their ignorant ideas, even if they know they’re ignorant, and seem strangely proud of them.
The anonymity of the Internet emboldens and validates more ignorance than it dispels. (The SDMB is a rare exception – think Usenet.)
I believe that there is a species of large insect larva that lives inside bananas, it is nearly impossible to find as it’s flesh has the same taste and texture as banana and when disturbed, it stops moving.
