Is anyone else watching this show? I’m really enjoying it.
As a cable news addict, yes I am. It is good, mostly though I’m happy that MSNBC has a weekend lineup for at least the first part of the day now. It’s my favorite network of the big three, but it’s constant weekend marathons of lockup and caught on camera frustrated the hell out of me and drove me into the arms of FNC come every Saturday.
Melissa Harris-Perry isn’t so bad either.
Yes, I watch it pretty often. He’s a very smart articulate guy who, if he has any problem, it’s that he over-analyses it rather than going for the crass (and usually correct) answer.
I have to admit though, that one problem I have with his, and pretty much all the regular pundit shows, is that they are always being guests in each others’ programs, and the “guests” who aren’t also hosts circulate among the shows exactly the same way. To me, it suggests that the programmers are lazy in not seeking out new ideas and speakers, and that they are looking for comfortable and predictable opinions. MSNBC, Fox and CNN all do it, so I don’t mean to single out Chris Hayes in particular.
Watch it a lot (missed today, though–what was the topic?). He could use a few new guests. And those incessant interruptions drive me crazy. “Welcome back to UP with Chris Hayes–I’d like to ask my guests about the debate last night, which I’ll do as soon as we come back from this break…”
I agree, she is pretty good. I agree on the lockup stuff too.
The conversation got pretty heated yesterday when the Trayvon Martin case was discussed. I didn’t catch the whole show today, but I did like the clip of Romney talking about working moms. After the big fuss kicked up about his wife being a stay at home mom, it was hilarious to see him talk about how he thinks all moms should go back to work when baby hits two years of age.
Anyway, I do find him articulate and very well spoken. I’m gonna keep watching him.
I like Up. It’s probably the only show worth watching on Sunday mornings. Well, Melissa Harris-Perry is pretty good as well, but Up tends to talk more about what I’m interested in. It’s a shame they have to go to as many commercial breaks as they do, as I think they’d be better off with about 25 minutes uninterrupted and about 5 minutes commercial per half-hour. It’s definitely the only thing worth watching in the 8-10 AM slot on Sundays.
Today’s show was amazing, and I was really planning to post about this show before finding this thread. His guests were former congressman Tom Perriello. Heather McGhee of Demos, Betsey Stevenson of Princeton and David Cay Johnston Reuters’ tax reporter. Four smart people talking intelligently about tax policy for two hours moderated by a fifth smart person. They kept mentioning things that really shocked me.
I watch both Up with Chris Hayes and Melissa Harris-Perry, but online during the week. We don’t get it here (Hungary) on the television machine, so I am glad and thankful that msnbc.com puts it online. Both really good shows, I think.
