Yay Shoes! I’m glad to hear the good progress!
BTW, there are mats you can buy to go under the grill to keep grease from staining your deck.

More happy dances, but no singing. I like you guys too much to do that to you again.
Has it really been a year? Holy cow, I’m getting old!!!
Good on TOS for working so hard, sometimes stubborn is a very good thing.
Oh, and do take Digital is the new Analog’s advice and have the herd fixed. Tame BBQ’s are easy to rehome, but feral ones can do serious damage to the environment.
Woo Hoo! (Plus, had to bump flatlined.)
What a great update. You and Mr. shoe are an inspiration.
Yay!
Thanks, everyone. I read him some of the responses here - he LOL’d at the suggestion to spay/neuter his herd of grills, and pointed out that he was hoping to breed a gas/charcoal hybrid.
And in response to this:
… he said, "Well, drive on down to Texas and I’ll give you a great big
brisket!
Thank you again to everyone for the good wishes. Intangible but important.
Hybrid? You mean like this?
Waitwaitwait… is THAT how those miniature pink kitchens are born?
How about an update?
Agreed! Was just thinking of y’all yestersay and would love to hear how things are going!
I’m interested, too. I hope he, and you, are doing well.
Our dumbfuck neighbors installed an above-ground pool about a month ago. Knowing them, I predicted their kids would play in it about a week, and then it’d turn into green soup because nobody would maintain it.
This has indeed happened, and now there’s a festering swamp next door. I am now, of course, completely spooked because of Mr. Shoe’s story and am starting to work out how to request that they do something about it without starting a feud.
Is there some agency in your town that you could anonymously report it to? That’s a public-health issue, so maybe they’ll come out and tell the neighbors to clean up their act or be cited.
I can’t believe this thread got bumped! I was planning to bump it today myself, because today is the 1-year anniversary of the day I took him to the ER, not knowing at the time that he’d literally never walk out of that hospital.
One year ago.
Today.
And re-reading over some of my earlier posts, I can’t believe the difference. He texted me at work a few hours ago to let me know tonight’s chicken dinner is prepped & seasoned, he made guacamole etc. and is getting ready to run a load of laundry.
What a difference a year makes!
I won’t lie: it’s changed our relationship permanently. Not for the worse, mind you, but … things are different than they used to be. But I love him, and he loves me, and in the end, that’s all that could ever possible matter.
Oh, wanna know something cool? At physical therapy, until now, when he’s “walked” (supporting himself with a walker) he’s had to have a PT pushing against the knee on his bad leg to brace it, while pushing against his butt with the other hand to help his balance. This week: he proudly reported that she didn’t touch him at all while he was walking. That doesn’t sound like much on the surface, I guess (“Really? Awww, she didn’t touch your butt?”) but it’s HUGE news: he’s continuing to improve, and hasn’t even hit a plateau yet.
He’s standing for short periods of time at home, too – supporting himself by holding the back of the couch, for example – and looks so much more stable when I see him now vs. the first time I saw him stand. (Picture a wet noodle trying to be vertical).
So on that note, I’m going home to my chicken dinner. That my husband prepared. Because HE’S NOT DEAD YET!!!
… and he’s still getting better.
F-in’ Awesome!
That is so wonderful! I hope he continues to improve!
West Nile had not been too much of a problem here, but I guess this year is worse. And I have seen a few dead birds. I hope my noticing them is confirmation bias.
teela brown, you need some Mosquito Dunks!
What a great update! You made my day!
Couldn’t have said it better.
Hot Damn!
That’s all well and good…but what about the grills?
Yaaaaaaa!
Thanks so much for the update.
Pulled up this thread for him, which inspired him to go wheel around behind the couch and stand up. And let go. With both hands.
Side benefit: he pulled up his own pants, something that’s (the lack of ability thereof) been pissing him the hell off. Congrats, dude: you can now pick out your own wedgies!
Everyone reading this: fix your pants and scratch your nose. Now, feel grateful that you can do so.
