I posted a while back about how our formerly friendly dog growling and barking at visitors. We had a trainer come, and figured out that what he mostly minded was people coming through the door. That’s a pretty easy fix, since we don’t get visitors we aren’t expecting. He just goes up to his crate and comes down when they’re settled in. He has a mat he lies down on; at the beginning of the visit he has a kong or something similar to keep him occupied. Our son came to visit last week, and it worked pretty well. I wouldn’t say he was exactly friendly, but not aggressive either. When our son got in his car to go back home he stood at the front door with the two cats looking kind of sad. I’m sure he’ll still bark at people coming to the door trying to sell us stuff, but we don’t really mind that. When workers come he can go to day care, which he loves.

Since my post he leaned too far over the raling of the deck and fell into a pile of leaves, He wasn’t hurt, just embarrassed.
