Update: Waaaaah! I didn't win! Daddy, sue them!

Some of you may recall this thread from a few years ago: Waaaaah! I didn’t win! Daddy, sue them! wherein there was discussion of a hockey dad in New Brunswick who sued his kid’s junior league when the kid didn’t get the league’s MVP trophy. Legal eagles on the thread predicted the suit would be dismissed.

Here’s an update: Hocky Dad Pulls No Punches. As expected, suit was dismissed. Hockey Dad has now made it his life work to bring “accountability” to Hockey Canada for their conduct, including human rights complaints and trips to the Federal Court. This website is part of his effort: Hockey Croteau - La "Victime Victimisée dans le sport mineur / The Victimised Victim in Minor Sport.

My only comment is to echo Bugs Bunny: “What a maroon!”

Way to model appropriate adult behavior for your kid!

To quote a recent thread: “I weep for our future”

You know, I get all misty-eyed when I see a loving parent like that instilling such fine values in his child. I have hope for our future, ladies and gentlemen, because I know that tomorrow’s generation will have a strong grounding in personal responsibility. And that bodes well for us all.

What – me, sarcastic?

Yet another shining example of why there are more horse’s asses than there are horses.

45 goals and 42 assists in 27 games is amazing and it would be interesting to know why he didn’t win the award. Still, it’s not worth suing over and it really says something about the father that he went ahead with this suit even though it damaged his son’s hockey career.

I agree with Marley23 - the dad in this case is suffering from a serious lack of perspective. The hockey dad has been quoted as being prepared to take this case to the Supreme Court of Canada to get his son that MVP award. Yes, this is Canada, where hockey is the game, but all this for a minor league MVP award?

Marley23, my WAG is that the Dad pissed off a lot of people big time prior to the award. Given his actions after the award, he seems, to me, to be the prickly “Do things my way or else” sort. While not fair to the son, it’s not hard to believe, should my WAG be true, that they voted against the son because of the actions of the father.

Seems there is another mom with a similar issue. How they claim human rights abuses, however, is far beyond my understanding.

Y’know, that’s a pretty good WAG. You’re right - it’s not fair to the son, but as one who has coached youth league sports for over 10 years, I can tell you it happens more than you know. Any time we (the coaches) select an All Star team for post season play this issue comes up. The league commisioner always asks “OK, you have selected the 12 best players to represent our park - are there any problem parents we need to know about?”. If the answer is “yes” we carefully consider whether keeping the player is worth it.

I hate having to exclude a kid because of his or her parents, but there are more issues involved than fairness to one kid. We are, after all, representing our park and we take that seriously. If we strongly believe the parent will reflect badly on our program, then we have no choice but to drop the kid.

I can see that happening in this case.

I witnessed a similar situation recently: a father showed up at my high school to pitch a bitch about his son not winning the MVP award at the baseball banquet. This was complete with shouting and arm-waving, and was very embarassing to the kid who is a nice, quiet boy. What the dad didn’t know (or more likely, didn’t care) is that the kids on the team voted for this award and it is more than who scored the most points or had the flashiest last-minute score to win a game. The kids also take into account sportsmanship, being a team player and an all around good guy. A disappointment, sure, but certainly nothing to sue (or shout) over.

The fact that the son was given the high scoring award, but not the MVP says a lot about the situation, I think. Most Valuable doesn’t necessarily mean highest scoring, or even best player. It has a lot to do with what happens between the team members. The girl who was the MVP on my daughter’s high school team last year wasn’t even always a starter. She was just really good for the whole team.

Is there something that he could be charged with for being such a fucking nuisance? This goes beyond whining-it sounds like harassment.

Asshat with intent to breed is a maybe, but we’re gonna fill those jails awful fast, Guin.

CROTEAU FATHER

Thank you for your posts, it shows me again how misinformed people are in regards to this case and how important it is for me to inform to people having interest in this story.

  • first of all, the case is still under the federal court and has never been thrown out.

-secondly the CHR’s decision about my complaint at the CHRC for having Hockey Canada taking my sons right to play hockey in Canada and the USA was not rejected::: it only mention that the complaint against Hockey Canada is Not under the Humans Right jurisdiction.

  • at the federal court a response from the Federal Court state that Hockey Canada is Not under the Federal court Laws.

  • At this time what i can tell you is that Hockey Canada is in Canada but is under NO easely attainable jurisdiction in this country… up till now.
And this is why i said and say that this case will only be resolved at the Supreme court.

  • Hockey Canada create a premiere illegal / legal action by doing so to my son… having done a legal precedent in this country does merit some time spent on !

if Hockey Canada would be sure that they are legaly in right under the canadian constitution ( Rights and Freedom Act) for what they did, then i don’t see any reason why they would pay high fees for expertise of the biggest law firm in this country as Borden Ladner Gervais with 670 lawyers and also having the same lawyer in defence of ex prime minister Chretien at the Gomery scandall then against myself that has no lawyers !!!

  • i’m still amaze to see how wrongly much area in the country are informed about this case, wich has absolutely NOthing to do with a Trophy.

i’ll try to ease understanding of the case by adding here under my answer to a post to Rick on my web site:

Again i appreciate your time following this case that is way far from beeing over.
i’m sorry for my lack of english writing, but even thaught it’s not my primary language i feel i have the responsibility to do my best to inform you.

Thank you

you are also welcome to my site.

Post subject: Sidney Crosby Memorial Cup MVP???

Wow! What happen there, Sidney Crosby by far the best player in the Memorial Cup. He proved it by finishing top scorer with 6 goals, 5 assist for 11 pts. He didn’t get MVP, I can see a lawsuit coming up there. Mr Croteau you should try and get Crosby on your side, it would make good publicity.
My point is, even if you finish top scorer in any league it doesn’t give you the MVP honors automaticlly.
Rick

--------------------- My response to Rick ----------------

Thank you Rick,
you are absolutely right. The difference here between Sidney and Steven is that all voters for the MVP at the Memorial Cup voted on true numbers wich for Sidney were as you mention 6 goals, 5 assist for 11 pts.

In my sons case, voters were not given and this for months long period the real and true accomplisments done by my son. All other league stats either individual or team Stats were added and appeared as they were supposed to be weekly, exception to my son’s stats.

in Steven’s case the wrongs began january 2002, when this so person began NOT adding Stevens point on the weekly public Stats, and this to close the already wide gap between Steven and the other players in the league. It began with a 5 point game hidden and kept aside. It kept going that way until the end of the season, where at that time Only all the 27 point difference appeared suddently , but this beeing AFTER the coaches voted for the MVP FORWARD .

By doing this repugnant strategy on a weekly basis, instead of showing the true gap difference of 18-30 point differences during that period it would instead show a false leading gap difference between 6-8 to +/- 10 points during the rest of the season.

Also, in the New-Brunswick Bantam AAA league there was a MVP DEFENCEMEN title and a Best Goalie voted Title and the MVP FORWARD award.

In hope this does help you understand better my resolve. This has nothing to do with a trophy!!!

Sidney Did Not win the MVP but the true numbers were available to the voters wich was NOT the case in my sons case and this for a long period of trickery.

You may tell me WHY thes adult acted this way against my son.

Hockey Canada’s bylaws being illegal and against the humans rights law and the charter of rights and liberty obligates and gives right to their organisation to simply take away all the kids right to play hockey in Canada and USA because the responsible parent, after facing the organisations continous silence toward questions had No other choice than go by the court system for answers.

This is the way built by Hockey HIGH level responsibles to protect one of their personnal or themselfs when are at wrong.
It is over protectionnist of the bad volunteer that did cause discrimination or abuse and shows much irresponsibilitys towards the minor age and parents.

*** Never was my CHR complaint rejected or the case at the federal Court rejected because Hockey Canada and al were given by one of theses 2 legal institution the statement of haven acted legaly in my sons case. The only responses and decision given are that Hockey Canada and al are Not under the Canadian Human Rights Law and they Are Not under the Federal Court’s jurisdiction, so both institution can NOT take action to my requests.
… and thats HOW Hockey Canada and al give themselfs the Right to do what they did to my son , and thats WHY i always said that this case will end up at the Supreme Court of Canada, because , the Charter of Rights and Liberty is FOR ALL , AND APPLYS TO ALL… includes Hockey Canada !

wow !

It may not be eloquent and it may be far off base, but I think I speak for everyone here when I say “what the hell?!”

Despite the language difficulties it’s still a load of…Oh, this is still in MPSIMS.

My problem exactly.

You didn’t get an e-mail from a girl named Rose, did you?

I agree. This is the second most confusing thing I saw today. And I watched Pink Fleud’s The Wall today.
