Is it too soon to call Florida?
Just watch out for the Hanging Chads.
Updike or New Iskander? Even the Diebold machines can’t decide that election.
Aw shit. Can I have a do over? I haven’t been able to sleep and in my distracted state I may have voted for Buchanan. I tell you. This excessive light will be the death of me.
They say that, as Wolfgang von Goethe lay dying, his last words were, “More light!”
Perhaps it wasn’t so much a request as an accusation.
Give Isky the points for style; he refers to all of us as “my dear sneering clowns” - Uppy hasn’t come up with anything half as good.
In summary,
I support President Bush.
I support the war in Iraq.
I am against abortion.
Therefore, I am stupid. Got it.
There is nothing inherently wrong with any of those positions, and it’s certainly not "dishonest or “evil” to have them. I believe in everything I post.
Have I gotten carried away in support of them? Upon reflection, maybe I have, in a few cases.
For that, I apologize.
But I must say, the name-calling, gang-piling, and circle-jerk attitude of some of you is rather unpleasant.
Just my two cents.
Ah, now the real fun begins.
Don’t Clothahump and Duffer also belong on this ballot?
Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! We’ve lured Updike in here. Now crank up the excessive light and let’s fry him!
They’re vying for the VP spot.
To elaborate, Uppy:
First you hop right up onto a perfectly good vacant cross, and then you use up all of our straw? Wasteful man, wasteful.
And speaking of things which are a waste, let’s discuss you.
You’re being taken to task for your stupidity and intellectual dishonesty. Take note, by the way, that intellectual dishonesty is not the same thing as dishonesty. I would point out, as well, that your stupidity and intelletual dishonesty do indeed dovetail.
It is stupid to make pronouncements without reading a damn thing first, as you did in the threads I linked to. Compounding that stupidity is your rampant intellectual dishonesty, as you seem pathologically unable to analyze any of your beliefs when confronted with contrary facts, or to analyze any statements others make without the cognitive dissonance alarm sounding and them thar doors o’ perception being locked and barred.
I’d say you’re an idealogue, but idealogues at least have higher cognitive functions going on.
On the issue of abortion, one can accept that people believe different things. I’m fully pro-choice, but I accept that for those who believe a fetus is a human life, that abortion becomes murder. But it’s still legal, and in any case we don’t allow people to murder murderers. Besides, just as you view the abortion docs as ‘arguably not’ innocent, so too do the terrorists view many westerners as ‘arguably not’ innocent.
Your support of murderous fundamentalists, as long as they’re of a religion you like, is just another instance of your intellectual dishonesty, and your glaring stupidity. Or perhaps, if you want to pick a semantic nit, you did not explicity support them, you just refused to condemn them in the same terms as you did the ‘terrorists’. Blowing up an abortion clinic, an act designed to terrorize a community, becomes a different beast in your world. Transmuted, of course, via the alchemy of your intellectual dishonesty.
And by the way, the ‘name calling’ and ‘circle jerk’ is because, miracle of miracles, wonder of wonders, the Dope is probably the best message board for intellectuals and those interested in learning and knowledge. (So why are you here, again?) It is also one of the best peer-reviewed sites on the 'net. Someone who spouts off ignorant, intellectually dishonest, and just plain stupid posts will have earned the collective scorn of the Doper community. Note, they will have earned the reaction they get.
This isn’t a thread about how people hate Republicans, but about how you, personally, are an intellectually dishonest fool. Well, it’s also about how Isky’s one too, but he at least had the good sense to respond with a joke rather than a whinging attempt at martyrdom.
Yookeroo: Ay! Write your own Pit thread
ETF: I would like to point out that we must shine pure daylight upon those who would otherwise lurk in the shadows; those who hate us for our freedoms.
But not on the issue of President Bush or the Iraq war, right?
No, no, you’re missing the point once again. We don’t think you’re an idiot because you have these positions. We think you’re an idiot because you are demonstrably unable to string together a cogent and logical argument in support of any of them. Plus, you kinda come off as a dick (e.g., the implication that terrorism isn’t as bad when abortion doctors are killed, cause ya know, they’re “arguably not” innocent).
Honestly, why do stupid people fall back on the Persecution Defense so often? It is old and tired.
Back in the not-so-distant past, there was a poster by the name of Reeder. He was quite liberal - hated Pres. Bush with a burning passion, opposed to the war in Iraq, pro-choice.
SDMB consensus was that Reeder was an idiot. Why? Because he was unable to string together a cogent and logical argument in favor of any of his views and because he was, ya know, kind of a dick.
Same game, same rules.
By the way, this is exactly what FinnAgain is referring to when he talks about intellectual dishonesty. Instead of addressing his points (you support murderous fundamentalists when you like them, you do not respond to or examine evidence that contradicts your views), you say “Look! I’m being prosecuted!”
That doesn’t fly here.
Like I said folks, Energizer Bunny.
:smack:
I of course meant to say persecuted, not prosecuted.
It’s too late at night for me to be doing this crap.
The dishonesty is on his part. He trys to appear reasonable about one subject, abortion, ignoring the subjects that he knows damn well he’s not reasonable about.
Tisk tisk.
What did I say about straw, stupidity, and intellectual dishonesty?
But, to address your red herring: certain things can be disagreed with, and there are valid points of view out there. But, as the saying goes, you are entitled to your own opinions, not your own facts.
But that is tangential.
The real point of this thread is that you’re an intellectually dishonest quarterwit.
And you are not being called out because you support the Iraq war, or because you support Bush. I’m reasonably certain that most Dopers who know me, know that I at least try to hear someone out and analyze their reasoning and factual arguments. As an example, I disagree with Bricker on most political issues. But I respect him, as he is intelligent, intellectually honest, and a good communicator. Without a doubt I disagree with him, and to put a finer point on it I believe that he is often flat out wrong. But I doubt that in a million years I’d be Pitting him, much less for the reasons I’ve Pitted you.
The reason you’re being called out is because you are the intellectual equivalent of a squealing toddler in a fancy restaurant. A mean toddler with a dirty diaper that I can smell from across the room. You’re a fool, a patsy, a schmuck, a janus faced jackass, an intellectual whore, a spiteful, small mind, big mouthed moron.
I’m glad we cleared that up.

What do Christian fanatics do? Protesting at Matthew Sheppard’s funeral, at the funerals of fallen soldiers, and popping off an abortionist or two is NOT the same as what some Muslim fanatics do, like flying airplanes into buildings, blowing up trains, buses, pizza parlors, etc.
Thinking otherwise is relativism run amok.
