When your favorite website upgrades to a new version, what do you do? I was going to post a poll, but missed the little box.
Do you eagerly explore all its exciting new features, or just endure it, or start searching for the button to restore the classic version, or stop using it entirely?
Most everything is commercial now, and I don’t feel enough loyalty to such sites to explore everything or to customize the appearance. I have stopped visiting a few after a design change made them unnavigable, though bad design choices and decline in content often go hand-in-hand.
The few truly personal websites that still get updated haven’t had a design change in ages.
A few examples of which I insist on the classical throwback are YouTube, Google Maps, Weather Underground. All still very useful, as long as you can figure out how to navigate them.
I recently made the interesting discovery that a more usable version of YouTube cannot be accessed on the Chrome Browser. You can open it in Firefox, choose a playlist configuration that you like, then copy-paste the URL into the Chrome browser and bookmark it. That is the only way (that I have found) that you can, for example, alphabetize your Playlists if using Chrome.
