YouTube removing the old layout completely

I recently read that YouTube will be removing the old layout completely. Will that affect the mobile site too, or just the desktop version? I assume there is no such update/redesign for mobile version, it is already a mobile site after all, but I just wanted to check.

It also says that I have to update my browser if I want to use the new layout. But I only get that notification on desktop site, not the mobile version. So, will I still be able to access the mobile version, even without updating my browser, just not the new layout on desktop?

Also, when will they remove the old layout completely? I think I read March 1st somewhere, but I’m not sure. Thank you in advance.

What’s a “layout”?

The design, the user interface. At least that’s called the “layout” of a site/paper/book in German, of course being a loan word from English. I know that many German loan words from English have other meanings in German (Oldtimer, Mobbing), but I didn’t know “layout” was one of them. Or am I being whooshed?

I’d like to see a link to the OP’s claim, so I can evaluate it. I haven’t heard anything yet; perhaps it’s a regional thing?

Here’s a link to an article about the changes.

The new site design has been around since November - I suspect some users have already been transitioned to this new layout, since the article talks about being able to switch back to Classic view.

The option to switch back to Classic view will, according to the article, be removed sometime in March.

As to the OPs other questions, I have no idea. The article I linked to only mentions the desktop site.

As a YT uploader, I have seen their new interface for a while, at least from the upload direction. It’s not a lot different from the old one. Since sites/services like this are constantly tweaking their options, adding some, deleting some, I’m not surprised. It’s all part of “progress.”

I’ve seen a few times. But mostly get the old layout.

Frankly, it’s one of those classic “make it better for mobile and forget the desktop people” type of stupid things that Google keeps pushing.

What I saw also has a “dark mode” thing.

I’m getting to be a progressively bigger fan of dark background web pages. It does take some getting used to.

There also seems to be more of that “infinite scroll” crap. I … just … don’t … get … it.

But the big annoyance right now is almost every time I get a pop up for their YouTube TV thing or a notice of change of terms of service. Over and over and over and over. How many thousands of times do you have to dismiss those before they go away completely?

(And of course stopping autoplay is never an option. You can click that button, but it does nothing.)

I complained about this here on SDMB, probably back in November, and someone gave me the following code to go back to classic layout: YouTube.

So now I find out this will stop working soon. That is probably why about half of the thumbnails don’t appear, that started a couple of weeks ago.

Here’s what I didn’t like about the new layout: the videos seemed all jumbled together without any discernible reason. The old layout tends to group videos based on subject matter or channel, and to label some rows of videos like “Food Wishes viewers also like:”

Looks like I will be spending less time on Youtube now, which may not be a bad thing.
