Upon ending my MA program - a reflective MMP

Hi I’m back from the doc and cleared to return to work! Yay!
And y’all were right - the stairs weren’t that bad - one railing & one crutch. What killed me was 45 - 60 minutes in the car each way. Oy! I haven’t driven in 6 and a half weeks and my knee is very unhappy right now.
So I took a muscle relaxant and a pain pill as soon as I got home, and after I decompress, I am going to stretch out for an hour or two.

Well, I’m finally getting around to learning how to knit. I met with a woman from my church last night and she showed me how to cast on and to knit! So I’m started. I’m knitting very tightly at this point, but it’s pretty even and looks decent. If I can crank out a couple pot holders that look good, I’ll start on a baby blanket for a former coworker who’s expecting in August. Here’s hoping it looks halfway decent!

This made me laugh out loud!

We just got new color copier/printers here at work. Yay! However, we are not hooked up yet and won’t be till “some time next week.” For the time being if we need to make color copies or print in color we must hunt down the one person who has the code. This person is also the building manager and is often out of the building. There aren’t enough  in the world. Kinkos here i come.

Puggy I found the poop thread right after I posted about not finding it. How, you ask? I did a search for “poop” and voila! Nowhere else but the dope I’m tellin’ ya!

BioRosie YAY!!! About the drivin’, stair masterin’ and clearance to go back to work. Relax. You deserve it.

I’ve been to the pool. It is hot and hy-oooooo-mid outside, meaning summer is officially here.

Supper tonight is grilled chicken sallits. This means I grill boneless chicken boobs and serve ‘em on top of sallit. Gooooood! Think I’ll do some cheesey bread bein’ as I got a big hunk of french bread to do sump’n with.

LiLi I don’t know why you want to read about Paris Hilton either. Really! :stuck_out_tongue:

Yay, rosie!!!

Same with me - something in the Merrylande aire, perhaps?? I know part of my problem was making mental lists about stuff to remember for Saturday. So at work today (slow slow slow slow slow) I made pencil and paper lists. I think I’m ready.

And I just have to share this: I went outside at work to get a little air - what a gorgeous day!! - and I saw these 2 robins moseying around, noshing in the grass. The landscape contractor had cut the grass earlier, and I guess it made for a nice little robin buffet. Bugs and worms - yum…

Anyway, after a little while, I swear, it’s like they decided it was a good idea to kick back and have a little nap in the sunshine. Hard to describe, but that’s exactly what their posture suggested. So there are these 2 robins, catching some rays on a warm morning, when all of a sudden out of the underbrush, this feral cat leaps on them and gobbles them up! I really shouldn’t have been surprised, tho, because it’s really hard to resist baskin’ robins…

I’m sorry.

OK, as an apology, I shall post the recipe for the All Purpose Rotisserie Rub that I just made. It works just as well for baking or any other time you’d use a rub - it just happens that I’m going to toss a chickie in the rotisserie for supper.

2 T sugar
1 T garlic salt
1 T onion salt
1 t celery salt
1/4 t cayenne pepper
1/3 c sweet paprika
1 T freshly ground black pepper.

Mix together - can be stored in an airtight container for up to 6 months. I’m not sure if my paprika is sweet or regular, and I just used regular ground pepper and it tastes just fine. You can use it dry, or mix it with oil (they suggest 1/4 c mix to 1T oil - I just mix what I think I want) then rub it on your food. I’ve used it on both chickie and pork with yummerrific results.

Does that make up for the robins??

And on that note, I’m off to the basement to start packing stuff for Saturday.

LOL! Why did I click on that? I figured that was a pic of Cuervo and his beanie baby GF. Isn’t “she” the one that …?! Gee MBG, didn’t you get that kitty fixed?! Maybe the surgery didn’t work? Or else Cuervo is really good at imagining?

He was a kitten, and that was just another toy. One day, in fact just as Wife and I were wondering when he’d be ready to get fixed, he dragged her (we’re hoping) into the room by her neck, purring like a crazy man…cat.

He set her down, climbed behind her and started what you see there. In fact those pictures are from that very night. He went in that week.

Doc says if they get neutered after they’ve been through puberty, then that kind of behavior isn’t unusual.

Now, the GF, whom I call 'Rita - as in short for Margarita (get it?.. Cuervo…Margarita???) and the Wife calls Jezebel - well, she gets dragged hither and yon in the house, and um…mounted. It’s funny to watch him with her now, he’s so big that the, um - important parts don’t even make contact, but it makes him happy so who am I to quibble? We never touch the poor dear anymore, she’s looks really really, well imagine if you were a stuffed cat and assaulted 3-4 times a day then abandoned just wherever.

Who’d’a thunk that Cuervo was such a horn dog! <snerk>

Supper was yummerrific! Moist chickie, steamed rice, italian green beans with onions. And in a little bit, ice cream. One load of laundry done, a second in the dryer. Life is good!

Plus I’m taking 3 hours off tomorrow, so yay!

Am so exhausted. Entertaining parents is hard work.

Must go teach class. And tomorrow is graduation - I have to get up at 7am.

Home, the dog has had her sunbathing, and dinner is in process(pasta and meatballs and bacon parmasian spinach).

BooFae, sorry about the loonies. That’s the advantage of being mamagement, I can get rid of horrid emplyees.

MBG, does Cuervo always use the tickler? 3-4 times a day! I am in awe.

LiLi, sorry about the puking. Rod the Roomba said he would be happy to vacuum for you.

Drae, glad the parental units are helping.

Yay Rosie! Enjoy your freedom.

FCM, that was Spats-worthy. Where is our other grad student?

I say the only way FCM can make up for that groaner is to mail each and every one of us an original FCM ceramic piece. I’m sure everyone will agree with me. :stuck_out_tongue: Also, that is soooooo gonna be told this weekend as sis’s and bil’s place.

That spice rub sounds nummy. Think I’ll make up a batch and smoke sump’n on my smoker this next week.

Supper at da cave was also yummerific. Grilled chicken or steak on a sallit is always just so good!

Haze the proper way to go through a commencement ceremony is hungover.

Ok, I have everything I need to take with me to interviews all assembled and in 'Stang so I won’t walk out of the house without it. All I have to remember now is to drive 'Stang.

OK…now I’m the one who’s laughing out loud, MBG.

My strategy for handling people I want to strangle: count to one million and grouse to my boss/closest colleagues/other appropriately sympathetic party. Depending on the seriousness of the offense (and how dependent I am on the annoying party), they are gently corrected, chewed out rather directly, or ignored (not actively - I just move on). If it’s bad enough, supervisors are pulled in and asked to make their employee straighten up and fly right. Fortunately, most of this winds up being passing inconvenience.

I’d never heard the word oubliette before. I was all proud of myself for recognizing that it came from the French for to forget.

Well, going 3 days without barfing is progress, right?

Isn’t working AND graduating all in the same week illegal?

Wow…the latest financial news stinks too, Drae (well, except for the help from the 'rents part). Hope things brighten up soon.

Good luck with tomorrow’s interviews, swampy! (And did I remember to congratulate you on the new job, Jahdra?

How’d the doc visit go, BioRosie?

That was a terrible joke, FCM. But I suppose the recipe almost makes up for it. Ice cream would help even more.

Need to clean up some here in case Local Best Friend’s aunt stops by here tomorrow or Saturday. I’m actively discouraging that, but you never know.

Off to do stuff…

GT

So, have some Baskin-Robbins!

it went fine

How’d I miss that? Must have jumped over posts or something… Glad things went well!

So. Tired. Sleeeeeeeppppy. This job feels strangely familiar, but different. They use Lotus Notes, which I haven’t used for years, and parts of it seem archaic compared to Outlook. They’re acronym-mad, but I’m used to that, since in public accounting, you can go for paragraphs without ever using a noun (or a normal verb). On the other hand, I have a cool laptop, with a wide screen and everything, and there’s a great little cafe downstairs. Plus, it’s close to the river, for afternoon strolls. Everyone was really nice, and I didn’t get that “ooh, fresh meat - I give her 2 months” vibe that was so common at my old job. Still, if I start making “ooh, I think I’m gonna stay” noises, smack me, ok?

Hugs to all, and good luck to everyone who needs/wants it.

Fed, done some computer fixin’ stuff, got a (sated) Cuervo sitting next to me on the couch, and baseball on TV. What’s missing from this picture?

Hint: NOT Ice cream
Better hint: It comes in a glass bottle, generally 12 oz at a time.
'Night!

Hehehe… hope Cuervo didn’t bring 'Rita (aka Jezebel) along with him this time, MBG!

FCM, the spice rub recipe does begin to make up for some of the horror of the baskin’ robin joke! Think I’ll make up a batch of it for both chicken and pork chops, like you suggested.

I had a late supper tonight, consisting of scrambled egg beaters with colby/jack cheese mixed into a bowl of grits. Now don’t get any ideas, but lately this combo has been tasting pretty good to me. Maybe bordering on a craving - but not the same kind LiLi would have, if she wasn’t throwing up, that is. Sorry that you’re having such a bad time with the nausea, btw. :frowning:

Yay BioRosie on the excellent progress today! Hope everything goes well on Monday when you return to work, and that your knee will be okay for the commute.

And double yay, it is -nearly- Friday!!!

There is a line of Big Weather headed here, and the lightning storm is amazing in the high clouds.

I wish I knew how to take pictures of this.

Jahdra, how wonderful that you had a great experience on your first day of the job!
**
rosie**, congrats on getting job clearance and for driving to the doc’s.
