Upon ending my MA program - a reflective MMP

BooFae I’m glad I could be of help in gettin’ you to finish your work. :stuck_out_tongue:

Haze seein’ you graduate is well worth all the agonizin’ ummm… minutes of naggin’ you to get your thesis etc. done. Now, aren’t you glad you had me around to do that?

It gets all cloudy, then the sun comes out. Then it gets all cloudy, then the sun comes out. Then it gets all cloudy… wash, rinse, repeat. On the plus side it’s nice and warm but not unogly hyooooooooo-mid like it can be down here. Still, the rain that’s supposed to be comin’ on in, well, come on!

Supper tonight is BLTs and french fries. I’m just in the mood for that. I don’t feel bad cause I sent ACBG home yesterday with leftover chicken spaghetti and a nice green sallit for his lunch today. I’m such a good boyfriend!

Nava man kissin’ is indeed a fine, fine thing. However, we are wont to refer to ourselves as boys and girls up in here, so I did that just for welby. Notice he has not responded. Perhaps I oogied him.

Just one more “Great OP!!” Ya done good, Haze, and congrats on that MA thing…

I know no one will care, but I correctly programmed my kiln to start around noon today. It’s in the middle of its preheat cycle, just as I’d hoped it would be. So yay!

I’m about to run to the grocery store. It’s been a while since I’ve gone, so I’ll tend to it now. Mebbe I can find something good for supper, too. In a grocery store - ya think??

Welcome, mini-brendon! Welcome back, bbs2k! SpecialOne - pfffft - when you figure you’ve got something to share, just go ahead and volunteer to start the MMP. Except next Monday - that’s my turn. It’s not like it matters how you start it, you know.

And on that note, I’m off to McKay’s. Sure hope ice cream is on sale!!!

I wanna a fresh, crisp BLT. swampy - send me one thru the CD drive, k?

so did I mention I am walking without the crutch now?

Woo-hoo rosie! That’s awesome! Soon you’ll be going on hikes, volunteering to walk dogs, and generating power by treadmill! How close are you to being able to leave your house and use the car and all that?

Bugger. They’ve turned the water off in our building. That means that we, well, don’t have water. They were supposed to turn it off at midnight tonight, and I don’t have any buckets filled or anything. Drat them.

BioRosie yay on the walkin’ without a crutch! WOOHOO!!! GO BIOROSIE! GO BIOROSIE!

Ok, nix the BLTs. A friend called right after I posted and invited us for supper. She’s doin’ a roast beast, fried okra, corn, butter beans, cornbread and a banana puddin’! One cannot turn down such fine southern cuisine! Yay for friends who cook big ol’ suppers and share!

\\\ ///// (Me clapping for rosie)

fcm reminded me of this cool new tool Mr. Anachi and I saw a commercial for yesterday. I can the Tim Allen man grunts from here. Will the wonders of science never cease?

We were going to go outside today and try the car thing, but I looked out the window and saw pairs of animals parading towards a huge wooden boat at the end of the street, so we decided to hold off until Wednesday. I see the doc on Thursday - I’ll know then about driving and going back to work.

Yay for no crutch, Rosie! Liberation from walking support devices is a wonderful feeling, isn’t it?

And just so you know progress does indeed happen, today for probably the very first time since my surgery (without the benefit of drugs, that is) I walked down two flights of stairs with almost no discomfort at all! It didn’t even begin to rise to the level of actual pain, just a bit of ouchy here and there! Upstairs has been completely normal and 100% pain/discomfort-free for some weeks now, but downstairs takes a lot longer, as I’m sure you’ve noticed. At least these days when the bionic knee hurts, I can feel specifically where around the knee it’s ouchying instead of it just being an all-over pain nerves yelling at me. I think all that soft tissue stuff is finally really healing! Yay!

I really need to go run a couple errands this afternoon, but after my trip to the doctor’s office this morning, I have no more energy. Oh well, I can do it tomorrow before Alice leaves for work, since the weather is a touch iffy and we don’t want to leave Rusty the thunderstorm-phobe home along till all the storms have disappeared.

Today they’re just widely scattered bits of rain, none of which appear to be headed our way, but we had a lovely 1.5" soaking rain yesterday that has probably made the farmers around here very happy. The fields were looking decidedly parched. So Barry done good all along the east coast! And I’m really glad the fires have mostly been knocked down; that’s obviously been a big problem.

How long is your water supposed to be off for, LiLi? I hope not for too long. Do you have any bottled water supply? We used to always have bunches when we lived in hurricane country, but as we learned last winter when our well stopped pumping when the power went out, we weren’t as well prepared up here as we were down there. It’s something we need to be more diligent about since You Never Know!

Back to work. I’ve got 12 minutes left of this deeply annoying witness. Which still feels like an eternity, but at least the end is in sight.

Rosie - Congrats! Did you give a big, Braveheart-inspired “FREEEEEDOOOOOOOMM!” when you chucked the crutch?

Puggy - Hey! That’s cheating! Computer controlled woodworking, indeed. Tim Taylor wouldn’t be caught dead gripping a mouse instead of a router! For shame.

Shame!

[sub]Unfortunately I have no shame, so I think that thing’s pretty damn cool. It’s like CAD/CAM for wood.[/sub]

LiLi - The water in our building gets turned off at least once a month due to one thing or another. I’m not really surprised, though, considering how the old maintenance guys tended to treat problems. (Clogged drain? No worries! Nothing a little HYDROCHLORIC ACID won’t fix! Wait, what? Now the P trap is leaking? Huh. Wonder how that happened.)

The water was supposed to be turned off from midnight tonight until three p.m. tomorrow. Now I have no idea how long it will be off, or when they’re turning it back on, or anything. We were going to fill the bathtub and kettle and everything this evening, but since they weren’t supposed to turn it off yet, I have half a case of ginger ale and some ice cubes.

If it’s off until tomorrow afternoon I’m going to be very angry.

Recruiter called with an interesting job for a great company. I confess, though, that I was uncertain about whether the specific job actually exists, so I told him my email address is firstnamelastname@dotcom. This was not especially nice of me, since, while that is my real email address, or one of them, anyway, no one can spell my name correctly. Since he has my resume in front of him, he can pull it off of that, but will he? I finally broke down and registered the incorrect spelling today, so I can get all those mis-sent emails. “It bounced.” “[del]You’re an idiot.[/del] My first name has two N’s.” “I know I spelled it correctly…Oh, it just went through.” “[del]You’re still an idiot.[/del] Thanks!” Misspelling someone’s name when it’s right in front of you drives me nuts. However, I would never expect someone to know how to spell it just by hearing it, so I’m not needlessly cruel. But if it’s right in front of you? You’re an idiot. If you mangle it for 5 years and complain to IT that you can’t find me in the company directory and consequently can only reply to emails I send you, rather than drafting new ones? Then there’s really no hope for you.

**GT **-- We speak Hebrew exclusively at home. Only one who can speak English to the kids and get away with it is my mother, who really **was **an English-only speaker until the age of 20, so she’s more comfortable in English and it shows. But Special Teen is really good at English – she’d do OK if she had to get along in the US right now – and the Terrible Twins [sup]TM[/sup] are gradually picking up a nice smattering; by the time they’re her age they’ll be reasonably proficient, too.

**Swampy **-- Yay for the rain putting out the worst of the fires. We could use some too… alas from about two weeks ago through about mid-September it’s pack-your-coat-cos-it-ain’t-gonna-rain time here :frowning:

**Haze **-- I think I skimped a bit on the congrats first time around, both on graduation and on your wonderful OP! So here you are again
And if you ever decide you do need a middle-aged, unattractive married man for… well, any purpose at all… remember I offered before **MBG **did!

MBG – I get first dibs! :stuck_out_tongue:

**Rosie **-- More congrats on going crutchless. Before we know it you’ll be running a marathon

**FCM **-- Believe me, I’m *not *about to try for an OP next Monday! I’m *still *intimidated!!
I’m thinking I may have something to talk about mid-August… if I’m still hanging out here by then!

We’re installing a major upgrade at one of our first and most important and active clients’ tonight; as man-in-charge for the project in the R&D dept. (e.g., I wrote most of the code and made sure others incorporated their own contributions; also I was in charge of QA and on-test-site integration) I don’t actually have to be there, but I have to leave my phone on tonight in case somebody goofs up on the small details.
Once this is over I get to rest for the rest of the night and start working on yet another version – due in just under another month! No rest for the wicked…

 11:40 PM. Night. Hope they don’t have to wake me up. See y’all in the morning.

Let’s just wait and see if Norm gets one.

Oh, and I forgot to tell you earlier that the e-mail was freakin hilarious!

Intimidated? By *this * crowd?? Silly person! :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I did $77 worth of assorted groceries, and came home ready to do steaks and N.O.T. tots and sugar snap peas, only to discover that *someone * doesn’t feel like eating. He just wants me to make him some veggies. So, steaks for tomorrow - I can marinate them overnight. As for me, I’ll prolly just have a bowl of cereal, and some of the fresh cherries I bought. Or skip the cereal and just have cherries. Yum.

I need to empty the dishwasher. But I don’t wanna. Life is so unfair… so cruel… I deserve a cadre of servants, because I’m nice, dammit!

<sigh>
rosie, congrats on losing the stick! Fingers crossed for a successful transition back to driving. After both abdominal surgeries, I had to go 5-6 weeks before I was allowed to drive, and I HATED IT!!! I don’t drive with my belly, dagnabbit!

**Puggy ** - I saw the same commercial. Fortunately, my sweetie was elsewhere, or he’d have been ordering one right away. I swear, boys and their toys…

I’ve got to ask - is it Friday yet???

I received the recruiter’s email and it is a real job, sort of. It is at a company I would like to work for, so we’ll see what happens. Tired now. Back to bed. Hopeful I can be civil tomorrow.

OK, so how much do you want one of these??

Note the description of “fully carpeted and cozy.”

And check out the “customers who purchased this item” and the “customers who viewed this item also viewed” sections. Hilarious.

I GOT AN A ON MY MASTER’S THESIS!

WHEEEEEEEEEE!

Ahem. I am calm now.

Christ, that feels good. I’ve been feeling so depressed for the past few days. This makes things a little better, at least.

Thank you for all your congrats, guys. Someone Special, if I ever need a married middle-aged husband, I promise I’ll call you first.

Congrats on losing the crutch, rosie!

Li-li, that’s happened to me before, and it sucks. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Congrats Haze!!!

Wow, first my A in Beginning Ceramics from a junior college, and now your A on a thesis! Yay us!
OK, so your A is way cooler and more impressive… CONGRATS!!
The following is a public service announcement: If you’re ever thinking about getting Moose Tracks ice cream made with Splenda, don’t. It’s soooooooooooooo meh. I don’t know why I bought it but I know I’ll never do it again. eeeeesh.

I haven’t emptied the dishwasher yet - maybe it’s my lazy guilty conscience keeping me from enjoying the ice cream?? Naaaaaah!

Wooooooo hoooooooooooooo!!! Go Hank! That’s great news.

taxi, your link was broken - I think this is it. And yes, it’s a hoot. Seems like one of those odd internet phenomena where a bunch of people got together to have a cumulative effect.

That e-mail was very…interesting…Mork.

All that talk of food has made me hungry. What to eat?

Sorry about the water, LiLi. Hope it isn’t off too long.

There was more, but I need to go find food.

Back after a while.
