US death toll in Iraq reaches 4,000

The odometer clicked over again U.S. death toll in Iraq reaches 4,000.

More than 30,000 injured.

And that’s just Americans, and just casualties. The *human * cost has been far larger, and continues to grow.

Indeed.

Happy Easter.

“I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.”

– Thomas Jefferson

We’ve turned the corner. However, the next 1,000 deaths will be crucial.

Now that’s positive thinking!

:frowning:

Thank you for this reminder that Thomas Jefferson was a theist.

Oh, we all know that! What’s the most famous TJ quote apart from the text of the Declaration of Independence? What’s carved on the wall of the Jefferson Memorial: “I have sworn on the altar of God eternal hostility to every form of tyranny over the mind of man; that is why the clergy hate me.” (Well, actually, the last clause was left off the inscription, in the interest of brevity.)

Jefferson Bible

Well, actually, you’re wrong. That is not his quote. You might want to check his letter to Benjamin Rush. And you seem to attempt to argue against Jefferson being a religionist of some sort. I simply said he was a theist. You know, a non-atheist. In fact, you might even consider him a religionist, one belonging to an extremely small sect:

Ok so how long until Iraq is stable enough to begin bringing our guys and gals home?

Non-sequitor of the year.

I Love Me, Vol. I says the next thousand will be crucial. We Americans seem to like round numbers. Five thousand dead Americans would be a milestone people might notice. After that… 10,000? (<=== Me being cynical.)

I voted for Obama. I hope that he or Clinton is the next President and that we will not reach five thousand, let alone ten. I’ve been opposed to Bush’s War since before it started, and I hope the next President will get us out ASAP. McCain seems to want to ‘stay the course’.

ETA: My friend has been recalled and must report to Ft. Hood on 1 April.

I’ve a freind in the same shoes. He’s on his 3rd tour. Yes, 3rd.

I think Obama will get us out strategically, 16 months I think is the current logical best case scenerio.

Yeah, you’re right. And it turned into more of a diversion than I intended. I’ll leave the issue alone. This thread should be focused on the 4,000. Let’s hope the number never reaches 5,000.

My apologies for the diversion.

16 months from now, or from Inauguration Day?

This isn’t his presidency right now. 16 months from when he’s running the show.

Well, maybe in the short term he can at least put an end to all this “stop-loss” crap.
