Better protection from whom? Does he think NORAD’s only task is to track Santa?
Is this some kind of mobster shake-down for a protection racquet?
All I know is if he says or tweets the “bombing Begins In five Minutes” he is not joking and there are definitely B-2’s or B-52’s (why not both?) going somewhere.
Yes. That’s how Trump thinks “winners” operate; they bully and con other people into giving them wealth and services in return for nothing. Only “losers” trade. Canada is benefiting from trade with the US, which in Trump’s eyes makes the US a loser and Canada a target that must be bullied into offering tribute instead.
One interesting thing for those of us with a passport (which excludes 60% of USA people) is that you guys get to visit with practically no documentation.
I forsee Canada closing down that, soon.
Also Canadian soldiers in WWII were notoriously brutal, in direct contrast to the “nice guy” view the country projects. I, personally, would choose not invade a country which breeds people who basically eat nothing but maple syrup, moose and beaver, live in igloos and hunt for wolf fur.
Trump wouldn’t care if Canadians were all ten foot tall cannibal supermutants out of Fallout; he won’t be the one fighting them. The soldiers aren’t Trump, and therefore their lives are utterly worthless. If the entire military died and he got ten bucks out of it he’d consider that an infinite profit; getting something for nothing of value.
And in case anyone forgot, Donny is the one that killed NAFTA so he could create his even better trade agreement. So, if Canada is benefiting “too much”, it is Donny’s fault. As I posted elsewhere:
That would be sad for a lot of people, especially those who live in some of the border states/cities. Also, I would think the western provinces benefit from tourist traffic on the Alcan and into Banff and others.
I’m sickened by this.
And I’m helpless.
None of my neighbors listens to reason, or responds to appeals to facts, logic, conscience, sentiment, or even self-interest.
My Congresscritter is the useless Marsha Blackburn, a spineless puppet of whoever bullies the GOP right now, and who never achieves anything but dumb culture wars.
I can’t even confide my feelings , face-to-face, with anybody.
That’s too bad. Of course you can always come here.
My wife and I see this, but don’t talk about it much. It’s too fucking much to take in, and tomorrow it will be a new shit show, so can’t plan, only react.
We are set for retirement, but if Medicare goes away, it may be a different ball game. We want to move because the altitude we live at and the snow is going to be way too much. We are lining up our ducks with a financial advisor and all that. I think we are going to be fine. But Trump and the ‘GOP’ keep throwing wrenches in the works.
We are basically planning on selling our house and using that to buy another. Social Security is not something we need to rely on.
As it stands, I have two very good lifelong friends that I talk too. But we are sort of in the same boat as my wife and I. Clowns and traitors are dancing around, and everyone of them is dangerous. What do you address when tomorrow will bring in Nazi clowns and 1500 angry traitors (backed up by 80 million morons) on the lose?
It’s a blitzkrieg: hit us with so much shit at once that it’s not possible to properly react to any of it. (This morning’s news is USAid.)
But it’s a blitzkrieg aimed, right now, at what’s supposed to be their own country. All the rest of the damage is, at the moment, collateral damage.
Until, that is, they figure they’ve got a good enough hold here to really be able to do what they please elsewhere. I sure as hell hope the rest of you can stop them. I don’t know if we can; too many of us may be them, or else complacent until it’s too late. (I hope it’s not already too late.)
Justin Trudeau is in talks with the orange turdwaffle today. No matter what else comes out of it, Trump will claim the credit for anything he can sell as positive, and Trump will blame Trudeau for anything he can sell as negative. Trump will also try to make it seem like Trudeau ‘caved’, unless Trudeau holds firm, in which case, Trump will say that Trudeau is inflexible.
You know, I don’t really feel like giving up our boycott of American goods anytime soon regardless of how today’s discussion turns out…
Yep, if there’s no deal he’ll say that Canada is hurting from the tariffs. If there is one he will say that Canada had to because they were hurting.
I could never be a politician facing Trump. I would be disinclined to enter talks, since there was no initial demand, and he doesn’t stick to deals anyway.
If Trudeau can make a low cost deal he should consider it. Something of low to moderate value significant enough to give Trump a win. However, a month delay is not highly significant. And the laundry list of “emergencies” is probably not finished. Introducing graduated retaliation was reasonable. Trump, on the balance of probabilities, will be less so.
