Unfortunately, Georgia will have to go to a runoff for Senator again. What I am pleased with is the governors’ races. After my state of Virginia elected a Republican, I was afraid that this might happen in other purple states and TBH, the governor and SOS are vital for maintaining free and fair elections. Glad to see Whitmere hold on in MI. I have pretty much written off Texas and Florida but I am awaiting AZ results.Overall, though, the election deniers are not winning these elections in the swing states.
Meanwhile, VA only lost one House seat and I will never have to see those Spanberger-Vega ads again. I unfortunately live just outside of that district. ( My ballot was literally one vote, just for Representative. and the incumbent won with about 70% of the vote so not really a contest but I support him so it’s all good).
Meanwhile in Arizona, my State Senator is defeating her Republican opponent 53.1% / 46.9% and for State House both Democrats are leading the lone Republican.
Arizona is odd in that the state senate and house districts share the same borders, but one senator is elected, and two house members, all serving four-year terms. Of the thirty districts, eight senators ran unopposed and seven representative races had only one party to choose from.
Andy Biggs is well ahead of his opponent and Paul Gosar ran unopposed, dammit.
I can’t believe how close the congressional race is in Connecticut’s 5th district. I guess historically that district tends to be close, but geez, who the heck is voting for Republicans in Connecticut?! (Not my district; my man Himes is up +18 with >95% reporting.)
All the major statewide offices in Connecticut have been held by Democrats for 11 years running. Please let’s not end the streak now.
(Last Republican governor was voted out in 2011, last Republican representative was voted out in 2008, last Republican senator was voted out in 1989.)
They’re still up in the air in Kentucky. There was a motion to add a state constitutional amendment outlawing abortion. As of right now, it hasn’t passed. Of course, even if the amendment fails, it’s still illegal in all circumstances. But not codified.
Well, it certainly was not a red wave. The Republicans took the House, the Democrats the Senate with the possibility of a runoff in Georgia to worry about. Just glancing at it, without my coffee, I did not see any Democratic flip of Republican House seat. There must be a couple.
I like the guy, but I think he’s shot his wad at this point. He either needs to try to get his House seat back or find some way to boost for Democrats that doesn’t involve running for office.
