Seconding. I’ve been checking this thread more often than the news, under the presumption that if anything major turns up in the news, it’ll be posted here.
Never even give a hearing to a Democratic President’s Supreme Court Justice appointments.
Its not one way. Canvassing allows people to air their concerns, and for candidates to get a better sense of what people are concerned with.
A candidate or elected official who never has time to talk to people is pretty undemocratic.
Agreed. The SDMB is a really good news aggregator and I rely on it.
Me too. The Ukraine thread as well.
Same.
Here in NC, Ted Budd won and ran a textbook Trump campaign. Outright lies bordering on slander. Won handily.
I keep having hopes for NC purpling up but every cycle I’m disappointed. Beasley seemed like a pretty good candidate but it’s so hard for a Dem to win in the south.
My sister was a canvasser for congresswoman Katie Porter. I couldn’t do what she does, but she doesn’t care if people close the door in her face. She had a quota of doors to knock on every day, and she did it.
I get my Ukraine news from the Ukraine thread as well, along with /r/Ukraine. Speaking of which, I think I will join /r/Ukraine so it will appear in my Reddit home page: for some stupid reason their algorithm never shows me posts on it despite the fact that I read it a lot more than other unsubscribed subs that do show up all the time in my feed that I hardly ever read.
The DNC pretty much abandoned Beasley, why I don’t know. If some of the money they wasted in FL trying to help Demings beat Rubio had been spent in NC things might have been different. The sooner everyone realizes FL is a lost cause the better for candidates in more competitive states. Same for TX. Total waste of time and money.
Did the 9am clump happen? NEED DATA
He’s retired. Says he’s too old for the part, because androids don’t age.
ABC News estimates around 95,000 votes are still in the process of being counted across Nevada, and Cortez Masto would need to win about 55 percent of those to edge ahead of Laxalt. Most of the remaining votes are mostly ones cast by mail, which are Democratic-leaning, so there’s a good chance she will win more of those than Laxalt will. About two-thirds of those votes are in Clark County, and another 20 percent or so are in Washoe County (Reno), and Cortez Masto has been winning more than 60 percent of the vote batches most recently reported from those places. All of this suggests that Cortez is more likely to overtake Laxalt than not, but we’ll have to wait and see what the actual votes say.
Brian

add in one more to the democrats for the house, a maryland seat.
Hmmm. Getting some unconfirmed reports on Twitter about shenanigans in Texas. Seems that polling places in Harris County ran out of paper ballots…at 7:30 AM. Little early for that to happen on an election day, don’t ya think?
Again, this is word-of-mouth, so to speak. Anybody see anything more substantial?
For context, it’s Republicans saying that Republicans weren’t able to vote in Republican strongholds because they ran out of paper ballots.
Beasley was an okay candidate, but she did very little campaigning in the western part of the state, and she wasn’t exactly an energizing candidate IMO. I wish Jeff Jackson had won the primary, and I hope he’ll win it next time.
