Unfortuantely, I missed the moment when the critical batch of ballots were announced in Nevada, got back just a few seconds before the race was called for the Democrats. I hope I can find the video at some point. Math Kornacki is best Kornacki.
Seriously, how does he keep the sleeves rolled up; safety pins?
Apparently the Culinary Union in Las Vegas came out hard for the Democrats, and it looks like it may have worked. But I agree that in general, unions don’t have the power they used to.
Who woulda thought the Republicans would steal from the Democrats the crown title for ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?
Oh please, the House too, that would be so wonderful.
It’s not that I’m a true-Blue Democrat; I’m not, never have been. I just don’t think there should be any more Republicans in office until they fully turn their backs on this win-at-any-costs attitude and philosophy they’ve been espousing.
Wow! Been watching football all day, and just now found out Nevada has shown the Election Deniers the door. Way to go! Almost as good as watching Oregon and UCLA get beat and DTR losing his shit on National TV.
And I had steak tacos and beer for dinner. It’s snowing, pretty hard. All in all, not a bad night!
They approved a drastic change in the Portland city government in the election. I didn’t pay much attention because I live out in the suburbs, but I understand RCV was part of the change. Maybe someone who lives in Portland can confirm.
The other important thing about 51 seats is that, if the Democrats also win the House (maybe, but I’m hopeful), it neutralizes both Manchin and Synema.
If they try to gum up the works with 51 seats the Democrats only have to appease one of them, with the other getting nothing, which means that instead of the Democratic agenda being hijacked by two jerks they will get to play the Iterated Prisoners’ Dilemma with each other, so their resistance will diminish considerably.
Also, fun fact: this is the first time ever that no Republican holds a seat in a district that touches the Pacific Ocean.
If my reckoning is correct, the states that will have a Republican Governor and a Democratic Senator/Senators after this election will be Georgia, Montana, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Nevada. Lots of possibilities there for a tragic blimp accident to suddenly flip the majority.
Good lord - it is finally hitting me how close we came to having to see more of the turtle for at least the next 2 years!
And I’ve been at the front of the parade of folk underwhelmed by Old Joe. But you gotta give him props. And suddenly, he’s not looking as old as I had thought recently! I wish better younger alternatives start gaining prominence…
I just realized - what we really NEED now are a couple of sore losers demanding recounts - which will undoubtedly prove unsuccessful. Put another nail in such vague claims of theft.
Montana and West Virginia (and Arizona if Lake catches Hobbs) require the governor to choose someone from the same party of the vacating senator. Vermont the governor appoints a temporary replacement, with a special election within six months of vacancy.
In addition, I don’t think Phil Scott would nominate a right wing Republican, which would lower his chances of election in a state that votes Democratic in all statewide national elections. The most I’d expect if I were the GOP would be “malicious compliance” to the party where he’d nominate a never-trumper who would vote GOP in leadership votes but not reliably in anything else.
As a poll worker in a battleground state who does NOT have time to devote to a a recount…I humbly ask to not wish for this.
In any case, election fraud lunacy seems to have been the one issue that got near-universal pushback (or at least a decline in support) across the land. Not that we don’t need to see more educating.
I read somewhere some 120 election deniers were elected to prominent positions. Since 70% of Republicans running claimed to be deniers, this is not surprising. Likely many of these will admit in private that Trump is imperfect. I personally think one face is enough and prefer people who do not need two or more, but hey.
