US Midterm Election watch along thread

Clearly a lich

Naw, Liches are powerful and terrifying. Giuliani is neither. Scary, sure.

But this elections is a major victory, bigger than many think. The Dems should have lost the midterms- Inflation, especially high costs of gas*. But instead, the Dems won the Senate and were edged out in the House.

This is also a major loss for trumpism.

*(I noted that in the run up to the midterms, gas prices in CA were at record highs, but have been dropping day after day afterwards. I can not help but think that Big Oil kept the prices high to make the Dems look bad)

Glad(?) to see I’m not the only person out here with a touch of paranoia.

According to AAA, the average price of regular gasoline today in the US is 3.35. A month ago it was 3.80. A year ago? 3.34.

Your cynicism, along with @silenus, is well-founded.

Maybe Democratic voters aren’t actually blaming Joe Biden for everything from hair loss to weight gain to their dog’s fleas?

One Neat Trick democratic voters know is that the President doesn’t set the prices at the local Exxon.

Yes, according to Walker’s son, Trump was harassing his father for months begging him to run.

I wonder why gives a shit about who is the Senator from Georgia.

I get endorsing people and saying a few things to try to get them elected, but putting in the effort to recruit someone seems like more work than he’s used to.

Trump thought that if Walker was elected, he would own him. Or did I mean owe him? Either way…

Also Trump still is pissed off at Gov Kemp and SecState Raffensberger for not ‘finding him votes’, but also recording him asking for them to find him votes. And making it known that Trump was badgering them to change the votes. So he wanted to humiliate them by putting his people in - he also harassed David Perdue to run in a primary against Kemp.

One last comment on the mid-terms from me. I find this story interesting and important enough to burn a gift link:

More from the article:

But as more data becomes available on turnout in this year’s election, it is quite clear that turnout was not the main problem facing Republicans.

In state after state, the final turnout data shows that registered Republicans turned out at a higher rate — and in some places a much higher rate — than registered Democrats, including in many of the states where Republicans were dealt some of their most embarrassing losses.

Thanks for this. “Republican-leaning voters decided to cast ballots for Democrats.” On one hand, what great news! On the other hand, Democrats have to be careful – they can’t rely on “own goals” (inherently craptastic GOP candidates) in every election. Now that Trump’s power has been shown diminished on Election Day, his power will next be diminished in primaries…and that will likely mean more “electable” candidates.

WASHINGTON — After watching Donald Trump lead the Republican Party to a third straight bad election season, his followers appear to be coalescing around a consensus: It’s all Ronna McDaniel’s fault.

Rather than blaming the coup-attempting former president — who made the willingness to spread his lies about the 2020 election a condition of his support — activists, lawmakers and even some fellow Republican National Committee members have instead turned on the RNC chair who is seeking a fourth two-year term.

It’s got to be anyone’s fault except Donnie’s.

I agree with all you’ve said.

And I think Dems particularly need to watch out for Glenn Younkin-style candidates, now Governor of Virginia. He campaigned as a moderate. He’s anything but. Now he’s in power, his true colors are revealed. He’s very much in service to the harder right.

Yeah, it’s difficult to figure out which category to assign Nosferudy Ghouliani.

It is definitely Ronna’s fault! That’s why I’m fully supporting Mr Pillow’s push to run the RNC. Only Mikey can save that sinking ship!

I read something about Trump that may explain why he pushed Walker so hard. He wants people who look the part. That is more important to him than qualifications. That also would explain his SOS choice. Think about it. If all you care about is appearance than a lot of Trump’s choices make more sense.

I guess that’s why Chris Christie never got a Cabinet position.

Or maybe as he put away favorite SIL’s crooked father?

Seems much more likely.

This is 100% true.
