US Open 2017

I’m starting the thread early for this major after reading the news that Phil Mickelson may miss the US Open this year due to his daughter’s high school graduation. An awful situation to be in. I’m a Phil fan and would have liked to seen him play although he wouldn’t be a favorite.

Watching some of the flyovers of Erin Hills. Definitely has a WOW factor.

Pretty certain that the USGA will somehow, someway screw up the tournament.

USGA gave a Mickelson a late tee time, so there is a chance he plays. He needs a significant weather delay. It will have to be heavy rain or fog or thunder-storms.

Seems strange that a High School graduation is this late, and it happens at 10 am on a Thursday. My local HS graduation was 3+ weeks ago. Although my HS graduation in the Northeast was in late June.

California tends to have later graduations. Often, school doesn’t start until after Labor Day by a bit.

My sister called today to tell me she won 2 tickets and invited me to go!

So we’ll see you next Sat/Sun.

Lots of low scores on Day 1. If the cut were held now (with a few players yet to finish their rounds), it would take even par to play tomorrow. Has there ever been a US Open cut at even par?

USGA will likely toughen things up a bit for tomorrow.

Phil M. withdrew - the weather delay he needed didn’t happen.

Yes, lots of low scores, but very few of them by top ranked golfers.

#3 ranked golfer only beat 5 players
#2 ranked golfer only beat 7 players

And pilot driven blimp crashed less than a mile east of the clubhouse. It was a advertising blimp, not camera blimp.

Fox barely mentioned the incident.

Seems like the course is a bit too easy for a US Open, what with all those scores under par. Could this be Fowler’s grab for a major at last?

Joe Buck is remarkably bed at this. He has told the same lame story about a player getting dropped off at football practice two days in a row.

At least he doesn’t talk all that much.
