ok,
Ireland are due to play the USA fairly soon, and I’m wondering if anyone wants to place a wager on the outcome of the match, something can be arranged.
BTW, this is not a thread to discuss the merits of Soccer.

Heck, I didn’t realise we had a team. Shows how much I pay attention.
Hm… I’ll pick, that after a close game, the americans will win.
Oh, wager? Nah, I don’t bet
There’s been a slight change in the roster.
Playing for the Americans will be the Washington Redskins.
I’ll take the big guys for $100. By attrition.
SS,
you do realize that the if the redskins play they will have to run more that 50 yards
US soccer fans?!? There are US soccer fans?
What kind of country am I living in?!?!?
Not a problem as the Redskins have more players.
Every time one of them gets winded, they just fall down on an opponent, inflicting enough damage to render the other player incapable of continuing.
As the Redskins have more players, they’re the last ones left on the field.
Of coures, it would help greatly if they had someone on the team that knew how to kick a ball!
SouthernStyle
I’ll take you on John.
I actually think this one could go either way. Looking at the US squad, only one notable absence (Joe Max Moore) sticks out; they’re still not a very good team but having been to the last couple matches at Lansdowne I have to say this Ireland team isn’t up to much either. The home ground advantage will be somewhat less for the US due to the game being played in Boston but the east coast summer humidity will get to the Irish players more than the Americans. So I go for a US victory, but not a strong one.
What are we betting?
ruadh, are Roy Keane and Robbie Keane available? If so, I’d be going with Ireland…
Robbie’s there, but not Roy. It’s become something of a joke here in Ireland how many players will be missing this tournament.
Went to the US-South Africa friendly today.
With a few exceptions, the US looked pretty damn good. Claudio Reyna played as well as I’ve ever seen him play( Scotland has been very good for his skills). Cobi played stupendously- 2 goals and an assist. Agoos was very, very solid. Ernie Stewart had a goal, but a pretty lame game, and a yellow card. David Regis sucked. Keller looked good, as did Llamosa, Sanneh, and Olsen.
Under Bruce Arena, this is a much better coached US squad than the team Steve Sampson fielded. They may not beat Ireland, but I doubt they’ll embarrass themselves.
Personally, I think they’ve got a good shot to win. Fingers crossed.
Ireland were pretty poor last night, I only thought the keeper and one or two others looked up for it. On recent performances you really have to say the US looks more likely to win tomorrow. Unfortunately due to the late hour I won’t get to see it
The way Ireland are playing lately the Americans could field their womens b side and give us a good match .
ruadh where is the match showing ? I cann’t see it listed in the RTE guide .
It’s not on RTE, it’s only on Sky Sports 1 and kickoff is 1 a.m. Wednesday morning so only those with Sky at home (i.e. not me) will be able to watch it.
I don’t have Sky either .
There were some good things to come out of the match last night.
Robbie Keane had an OK game, and with Richard Dunne and Foley scoring, it can only be good for their confidence.
Call it National Pride, but I think Ireland will edge it.
I didn’t think Robbie played very well at all - it’s been a while since I’ve seen him play well in an Ireland shirt actually. I did like Dunne, I also thought Carr looked pretty good but then I’ve been a fan of his for awhile.
Nice to see Kiely having a good match . A good set of hands betwwen the posts can make all the difference .
HE hasnt been the best at all lately.
I cant believe that RTE couldnt get the rights.
Their as much to blame a Greedy Murdock.
But RTE not showing the match does have its good points…
I wont have to listen to Bill ‘Okey-Dokey’ O’Herlihy pretend to know something about football.
OTOH the Sky commentators leave something to be desired too. Allegedly (I watched the game in the pub, so no sound) one of them made reference to the players “soldiering on in Soldier Field” … it doesn’t get much worse than that.
I suppose so, but there isnt too many Man United players on the tour, (Is there any at all?) So there wont be Andy Grey,
Thank God.
