It’s an ancient trope, hailing back to shame-free white supremacy and untrammeled manifest destiny. What a lot of MAGA voters yearn for. That outcome says a lot about the electorate.
The PA State Senate flipped to Democratic control for the first time since 1993.
This should allow an increase in the minimum wage, still $7.25 a hour only because of PA Senate opposition to going up to $15 (gradual, but immediately to $11).
And there are agricultural workers around here only getting that $7.25.
I click to finance.yahoo and see a headline that the market soared up due to the election, and another that it plummeted down due to election.
In our brave new world, everything is click-bait. A tiny move in the market becomes “The Apocalypse begins!!” :-- How else can the baiters out-bail each other? [/only slight exaggeration]
Regarding the Oregon Governor race: for the last couple of months the media has been doing their usual “OMFG! It’s a horse race! They’re neck-and-neck! It could go either way!!” thing. Bullshit, I thought. There’s no way a republican stands a chance in this state. And sure enough, every time I checked last night, Kotek had a comfortable lead. There was never anything to worry about, there was never any danger that the republican would win. I really wish the media would knock this crap off. But I know they never will.
That fourth district (NV 2, and my home) has never elected a Democrat before. Our delegation now is all blue, (including 2 female senators) and all state-level offices are now held by Dems. Amazing.
Check it vs. 1974 most likely, special circumstances that time also.
ETA as I was far from correct:
For Senate seats it was 1946, with 12 of 46 flipping Republican.
For House seats, it was by far 1894 during Grover Cleveland’s 2nd term. over 100 seats changed.
Yes, I was catching that through local coverage, which was about all I was paying attention to. Drazan had such an oversized presence on ads, too. When I saw the lead that Kotek had last night on the NBC website, I went to bed and slept just fine.
A few examples - in 1994, the Republicans won 54 seats in the House and 8 in the Senate; in 2006, the Democrats gained 31 House seats and 6 Senate spots.
jordan and scalise are throwing in their hats for minority leader, after johnson said he would not go for minority leader.
colom is speaking in miss. he sounds very confident. they must be doing some crazy math. msnow is saying there is a possible 43k votes in miss. mostly around jackson (colom) and tupelo (smith).
