USA Election Watch 2026

Well, a lot were basically supposed to be locks for Republicans. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: (Granted, it’s extremely unlikely that there will be any errors in the other direction this cycle…)

I’m adding Virginia Foxx (also in a dead heat) to that plea.

Many of the outstanding votes left to be counted are in heavily Dem areas where he is a popular presence. They know how many outstanding votes remain to be counted, and how many predictably will go to Colom. He’s in a good position to win at this point.

tupelo is still in play. the push is getting provisional cured.
43k in play.

I wasn’t too worried, but it shouldn’t have been as close as it was. As of now (75% of votes counted), Kotek leads by 6 points (versus polls that showed her ahead by ~3%). In a blue state in this election cycle, it should have been 20%.

I’m still sitting here unbelieving of the Texas election results. It took Texas Republicans years after W’s gubernatorial win in 1994 to consolidate power statewide. Democrats just knocked off every statewide officeholder (and look like they will take the State House) in a single election. It wasn’t even close – every single Republican statewide officeholder lost by seven points. It’s breaking my brain a little bit.

schumer is saying the right things. i would like to see a new leader in senate. corey booker would be really good.

Not to mention my favorite source of Market Watch schadenfreuda.

I’d vote for Booker for president, but I guess he made some pretty anti-gun comments that people feel makes him a bad candidate.

I hope he is the Senate leader. That would make a Black man in charge of house and Senate. Wow.

JD Vance on why they lost is partially correct, but it still smells of “we’re all trying to find the guy who did this.”

US midterm elections 2026 live updates: Vance blames Iran war for Republicans’ brutal midterms losses as Democrats retake Congress

“The real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone … The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night,” Vance said in a lengthy post on X. “If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that’s at least honest.

“Everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there,” added Vance, who had reportedly been sceptical about the unresolved war, which Trump launched in February alongside Israel.

That’s like a morbidly obese guy blaming his health problems on the Snickers bar he ate after lunch today.

Speaker Mike Johnson announced he will not run for Minority Leader in the next Congress. 30 minutes later Jim Jordan threw his hat in the ring.

There is also the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact to consider (need states with 271 electoral votes to sign on), but the Supremes might shoot that down. Texas was formerly shown as unlikely, but they by themselves would get it close to the magic number.

I have no doubt Booker will be running for president. It’s probably not a good idea to take on that leadership role while campaigning.

Man I just looked at Iowa - They have 4 house districts. Used to be Rx4 now it’s Rx1. They had 2 R senators, now just one. And a newly minted D governor!

Farmers have had enough!!

Man, he polled so poorly among Dems when he ran in 2020, he’ll need to think twice (or thrice) about that.

Meanwhile, Jeffries is on MSNOW saying “The American people don’t want us to get even; they want us to get things done on their behalf.” Just the framing of get even instead of hold them accountable reinforces my doubts about this guy.

I spoke too soon, Jake Johnson is narrowly (~400 votes) ahead of Finstad (MN district 1)

Another flip ?

324 vote separation, 391 write in votes

I missed the edit window on my post, but it should be changed to the last wrinkled relic of the Confederacy Virginia Foxx is losing by 99 votes, it hasn’t been called yet.. That sucks, but it gave me another chance to insult her….I loathe that elderly racist.

Try looking in the beauty salon that got built at the Pentagon with taxpayer funds. The perpetrator – or at least a plausible fall guy to take heat off the actual perpetrator – might be holed up in there.

The results of these elections reminded me of this, and looking up a link for the print I’m glad to see that the wave is moving from left to right!
