i have a version of that on my shirt this morning.
I’m baffled as to why he didn’t do better in 2020. He’s committed, passionate, no scandals, doesn’t drink or smoke, rescued someone from a burning building for cryin’ out loud…
If he does get elected in the near future…well, it’s not a huge political point but he recently got married, and we haven’t had a First Baby since poor little Patrick Kennedy.
If no one gets over 50%, the second choices of the people who voted for the lowest candidate are added to the top two. That’s why I asked about the other Sullivan, because his voters’ second choices might favor the Dem and put her over before the third-place guy’s votes are distributed.
Ah. Thanks for the clarification. My guess is that most of them are Republicans who mistakenly voted for the wrong Dan
according to msnow, in miss., hines still counting is leaning dem; rankin still counting is leaning rep.. with tupelo and biloxi in the mix. they did not say which way they lean.
Hinds County is the capital city of Jackson and is heavily Democratic-voting. Rankin is a suburban county directly to the east of Hinds – once a white-flight county but perhaps more of a mixed bag today.
I would expect Tupelo to largely be Republican voting and Biloxi to be the same, but less strongly. Could look at previous US Senate races at the county level to get a baseline.
From conservative West Michigan: my worthless congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-4) looks to be headed to the unemployment line. His opponent Sean McCann has made a speech declaring victory, even if the race hasn’t been officially called. This district has always been a Republican lock, with the old Dutch Reformed, rural and wealthy Lake Michigan lakeshore voters. It was just redrawn recently to include SW Michigan (Kalamazoo and surrounding areas) after a statewide referendum to have an independent body draw congressional maps.
According to NBC, there are about 9500 votes left to be tallied and Huizenga would need to win 86% of them to win the race.
This R loss along with an Abdul win were really all I was asking for Christmas this year, so Feliz Navidad to me!
My favorite tweet from last night: “They take so long to count because they have to say ‘Mississippi’ after each one.”
Y’all remember Paul LePage of Maine, right? He’s currently running against Matthew Dunlap for Maine house district 2.
LePage (R) 152,951 50.0%
Dunlap (D) 152,889 50.0%
87.4% reporting.
Evil fucker Mike Constantino wins Elise Stefanik’s safe seat in New York by two points. Is he grateful?
Constantino continued to speak, then, in a bizarre move, randomly singled out 7 News reporter Garrett Domblewski.
He called Domblewski and 7 News anchor Jeff Cole a**holes. He also called a reporter from a different organization a “f**king a**hole.”
Constantino then ordered Domblewski to leave and led the crowd in a chant, “Kick him out. Kick him out.”
Five or six security guards escorted Domblewski out of the building.
While Domblewski was led outside, Constantino and the crowd chanted, “F**k the evil media.”
Those people who thought previous Trump voters would never change their votes?
Looks like you were wrong.
thank you berdelond. that is very helpful.
also named bort, good one!
Yes, exactly. That’s what i meant by the “second choice”. The second choice of the lowest ranked will get distributed to the rest. And if that doesn’t push anyone over 50%, the next lowest will be redistributed (and any of the second choices that went to him will get reassigned based on their third choices.)
I expect the Republican Sullivan to win in the second choices of the other Sullivan. There’s an outside chance those people were mostly voting “against the establishment” rather than by mistake, in which case their second choices will mostly go to #3, and when that candidate’s votes get redistributed, i expect the Republican Sullivan to win.
And, if a majority of the voters prefer someone other than the Democrat, that’s how ranked choice voting is supposed to work. It prevents minor candidates from being spoilers.
And MI-4 has been called for the good guy!

(Yes, that was a complete sentence, Discourse)
Summary
Who will be the Democratic nominee for president based on what we know now from this election.
- Talarico
- Osoff
- Someon else?
I loved Kamala Harris, but apparently our nation won’t elect a female leader…no idea why. But I would discourage her from running.
Summary
If Harris doesn’t run, I think that Newsome has the inside track currently.
Summary
Over 100 women were elected to the house yesterday for the Democrats. Maybe we can stop thinking women can’t win because two mediocre candidates lost close races.
Summary
I don’t think Clinton or Harris were mediocre. And they both faced a monstrosity. To be fair to Clinton, she did win the popular vote by quite a bit, showing we are voting for women leaders.
We do have an entire thread for that discussion. ![]()
