USA Election Watch 2026

Democratic candidate for Iowa state house wins despite dropping out in September.

Eric Armstrong suspended his campaign due to health reasons, saying that he needed to devote all of his energy to that. Voters shrugged and said “hey, it’s better than the alternative” and elected him anyway. He said that he will do his best to represent them in the Iowa congress but warned them that he still needs to focus on his health:

At least the voter ID for mail-in voting seems to be failing, as well as the anti-DEI expansion. The school spending regulations are failing but close. Car mileage tax ban is leading but only by 1.6% so there might still be hope.

Problem is that the measures are worded to sound attractive, and most people don’t research the downsides of each measure.

And while I voted against the photo radar ban, one side of me (the side that got nailed twice last year by photo radar) is slightly happy. Although upon reflection one of those tickets was photo red light which isn’t covered by the ban, so less than slightly happy…

Hopeful that my next congressman will be a Democrat. Amish Shah leads Jay Feely by seven points with 90% of the vote in. By my calculations Feely will need to win 82% of the outstanding votes to catch up. Shah would make yet another Democratic medical doctor to flip a seat (Feely wasn’t the incumbent, the incumbent quit to run for governor but lost to Biggs in the primary).

And I am actually glad Tommy Tuberville won the governor’s seat in Alabama. Get that clown off the national stage. Rant all you want about furries flying our planes in Montgomery where nobody will pay any attention.

Tuberville, Governor. Holy Fuck, Alabama.

On the other hand, I guess Alabama no longer has the stupidest person in the Senate.

This is a great point. Tuberville is a clueless ass, but his national exposure took a huge hit by going from the Senate to the Alabama governor’s mansion. He can babble to his heart’s content but it now will be to a much smaller audience.

Not the type to stay up late watching election results, happy to see them in the morning.

Utah had an interesting result. After a redistricting court battle we ended up with a maximally democrat leaning map which grouped the Democratic downtown Salt Lake City and Park City areas where the Republican created map split those up into the four districts.

As expected former SLC mayor won that district, with a whopping 72%. The other house districts did go to the Republican candidate, but for two of them, just barely. 50% and 53%.

If the “Republican” map was used instead, all those Democrat votes would have been spread into the other districts, and may have been enough to push the D over the top. The Republican created map might have ended up with Utah sending two Democrats to the house instead of one.

I’m too lazy to look up each area and calculate against the previous map, but taking the district 1 votes, dividing by four and adding to the other districts does result in two D victories.

R’s in the state legislature also lost 19 seats as well. Still a comfortable R majority.

The GOP managed a flip in a heavily gerrymandered district in TX

According to CNN its

245-147 elected. 35-1 flip

Not trying to hijack the thread, but lordy, Kimmel is ON FIRE tonight. Look it up when you can.

Yes, and I was happy to see Prop. 320 fail as well.
