Saw an interesting post re: gerrymanders.

One of the states where the GOP resisted Trump’s efforts to force through an extreme gerrymander was South Carolina. Some strategists were pushing for a 7-0 lockout map. If that map had gone through and the results were what they were on Tuesday, it’s possible the new districts would have gone 6-1 for the Dems. Instead, using the existing map, it looks like it will be 5-2 for the GOP even though Democrats won state-wide.

It shows that there are some risks in pushing your gerrymander too hard, and the old strategy of shoring up your majority in the face of an opposition wave has some merit to it.

ETA: Apparently Indiana would have gone 8-1 Democrats if the GOP had pushed through the gerrymander Trump wanted.

Is it okay to admit now that this one actually had me a little bit concerned at the start of the night? :slightly_smiling_face:

Looking at it as a percentage, sure, but even if you’re filthy rich $300-million has to vex.

One analyst thought the blue tsunami was due in part to GOP ads on TV. With all the worrisome issues, the GOP though “men playing girl’s sports” was what voters were most concerned about! Instead all but the most bigoted MAGAts recoiled in disgust as GOPsters showed their hollowness.

It may be good to preserve some of these ads, as a snapshot of what, we should hope, is the nadir of GOP hypocrisy.

However, in the wake of the 2024 loss, there were plenty of pundits who said that the Dems needed to focus more on pocketbook issues and not be all trans all the time. Even though they weren’t. So I am not sure if I buy that people realized that the Dems had the saner take on trans issues than the GOP.

Both can be true of course. It’s possible that some people say “sure, they’re both focusing too much on men playing girls sports [even though the Dems aren’t], but what about my pocketbook?”

I saw a clip where Scott Colom was informed that Hyde-Smith had, in her presumptuous victory speech last night, bragged about blocking his judicial appointment. He broke into a long smile, pausing, and then said “bless her heart!”

I wish I could see the moment where she was informed that her election was in trouble.

So has Lauren Bobert officially lost yet? Cripes.

Here are the live results for CO-4. It’s not looking good for her but it’s not decided yet.

Thanks! Happy 30 days of Dead on dead.net to you!

Thanks my friend :slightly_smiling_face:

hahaha NBC just called this flip. Fuck that opportunistic weasel van Drew.

Musk’s stock portfolio probably lost more than that yesterday.

I saw that! It was absolutely brilliant!

Which of course is Southern for “What an idiot.”

AP called the race for Shah. So far called races are 5-1 for Ds with three yet to call (all led by Rs, but at least one is very close.

I’m really happy for you.

A New York Times article, while not making a projection, predicts Mary Peltola will win:

In Alaska, Ranked-Choice Ballots Are Unlikely to Be Enough for the Republican

CNN has it 253-156 in the house.

There are four uncalled house races in CA where both candidates are Democrats. Does anyone know if those seats are already included in the 253?
