USB Help Requested:Buslink L3 works on 2 out of 3 pc's

I have a laptop that is running out of space and many spare IDE hard drives (desktop size). I had a Buslink USB IDE drive that I outgrew because it was only 13 Gigs. I decided to try to canibalise the unit for my laptop.

I was able to take out the 13 gig drive and replace it wit hqa 40 gig Seagate Drive. I have larger drives but not knowing how big a drive it could take I wanted to go medium size.

After putting it back together I tested it out on two of my desktop systems. One is running XP Pro and the other is running 2003 Server. On both of these systems the drive worked after installing the L Series software from buslink . I’ve tried the same thing on my laptop but it doesn’t want to recognize the drivers. Any suggestions?

Is the laptop an HP of recent vintage. They were playing games with underpowered usb ports a while back that caused alot of problems.

It’s a Compaq Laptop so yes HP did make it. It’s a Presario V5000.

I tried using a powered USB hub but no change

Is there any way to copy the drivers from th XP Pro system to XP Home.
