Okay, I did a search on the boards and it happened to kick up a thread which included a post by WallyM7. I wasn’t here when WallyM7 was around, but I know that many posters had trememdous respect for him, and I noticed that there was a homepage symbol under his post, so I clicked on it to see what would happen. I got a “404 error.” Given the recent passing of another Doper, and the reaction which it recieved, I’m kind of surprised by this. It seems to me that if a Doper passes on and has a memorial page created about him/her, the mods should edit the Doper’s profile so that the memorial page for that Doper comes up when you click on the homepage link under their posts. After all, we can’t have a “Dead Doper Sticky” thread somewhere (well, we could, but I’d rather we didn’t), and this would at least give someone who didn’t know about a particular Doper, but found their posts interesting enough to click on the homepage button a way of knowing what happened to the Doper, how much the members of the SDMB cared about him/her, and that he/she may be gone, but isn’t forgotten for many of us.
Here ya go.

Thanks, runner pat, but I know about Wally, I was thinking more along the lines of something for the newbies who don’t know anything about him, or the other Doper’s who’ve left us.
When someone has left us, we generally just remove privileges from the account and let it alone from that point. They are gone but not forgotten.
Please remember that most often the problems of dealing with our members that are still amongst us takes all the time and attention we have. And the majority of your staff is awaiting with great anticipation the invention of the 45 hour day so we can finally get on top of things. That’s about what it would take for us to REALLY whip this board into shape.
Until that happy day, if you want to know about our dearly departed, ask us. Wally had a lot of friends on this board and I’m sure they’d love to tell you about him.
