Shucks howdy. I got a new laptop from Best Buy several weeks ago. It did not come with any documentation, and I’m trying to use the A/V out to display the monitor on my Television (I know the monitor has migh higher resolution, I just wanted to try it out). I have a cable that connects into the A/V port and has a yellow RCA cable on the other end. It’s pluged into my tuner, which is into my TV. I press the Function key and F8 (the LCD/TV button), and the TV flickers but the monitor’s screen isn’t displayed. I’ve looked on Google but I can’t find anything (or I’m just retarded). Could someone aid my quest? Danke!
Here’s where you can get a User Guide and other support for your Sonny Vaio GRV550.
Good luck.

- Quick tosser: usually, the video-out has a checkbox or whatever that has to be enabled in the video settings, on the operating system.

- Another quick tosser, possibly related: I got a Sony DSC-P51 digital still camera. After a while I decided I wanted to hook it up to the computer directly for a bit, as a web cam–just to see how well it would work. The camera is a 3.5mm jack and the videocard-in/out is an RCA…so, “no problem” I said, and I grabbed a few various cables and adaptors I have around for portable audio recording, and, , , -not one of them worked–most were a total black screen. A couple showed a very out-of-sync image. I eventually resorted to digging up the original box to RTFM, and the included camera-to-video-in cable was included (!-something I had not noticed originally-!) and it works perfect. I do not know why.
