V-Neck T Shirt Under Dress Shirt/Sweater Questions

Yeah, corporate America reporting in here. Wearing really nice blue dress shirt today with Superman logo cufflinks (little bit of whimsey). White crewneck undershirt underneath. Clearly visible underneath. Not worried about it one bit.

I haven’t done a scinetific study, but in a quick glance around the office, every dude is pretty much wearing an undershirt that is visible with the top button loosened. No 2nd button undone Guido-style shirt wearers here.

I find that microfiber or silk undershirts “slide” better under the top layer of clothing, so they don’t bunch up or pucker. Just generally more comfortable. Jockey Microfiber is a good affordable choice.

And I just spent more time thinking about undershirts than I have in the last 5 years.

Even with the V neck undershirts, you can sometimes seem the outline of the V under the shirt. So here’s what I do. I take an old ratty crew-neck T undershirt and just cut out a V with a pair of scissors.

My wife hates them though. They make me look like I got into a fight with Wolverine if I wear the undershirt without a dress shirt over them.

This. The guys in my office wear a dress shirt with a white crew-neck t-shirt underneath. It looks nice.

Okay so i bought some ralplh lauren v neck ones recently. They are decent though if i want to unbutton my dress shirt, it does show the V. However, this shirt is great if you wearing it under a dress shirt with it buttoned or wearing it under a v neck sweater.
When you mention 1 button unbuttoned… do you mean the top button at the collar? Or do u mean the button on yoru chest? So when people talk about having 2 buttons unbuttoned… do they mean the collar button and 1 button on the chest or the 2 buttons on the chest?
A look that i like a lot to wear in the summer or spring when its warm is wear a button up dress shirt untucked and wearing it with shorts and flip flops. IM sure u guys know what i mean by thtat look. But if im wearing that look, im suppose to wear an undershirt under right? Also, is the undershirt always suppose to be tucked in? I always worn a tank top under it and its fine but i read tank tops are like the bottom undershirts one should wear and thus one should never wear it.

As others said, you’re way overthinking this, particularly when you’re talking about whether to wear a t-shirt/undershirt under an untucked button-up shirt worn over shorts and flip-flops. That’s dressing casually and the only reason to wear a t-shirt/undershirt in that case is if you needed the extra layer for warmth.

But isn’t wearing a tight button up shirt untucked just by itself… sort of bad though? So assuming the weather doesn’t matter and it feels fine wearing undershirt or not, are you suppose to wear anything under the button up if you wearing it casually with shorts and flip flops?

I have always worn a tank top under it until i read thats a horrible thing to wear in general. So last time i just worn the button up just like that, issue though is since the dress shirt is short and tight it doesn’t look well if for example im stretching a bit if you know what i mean.

These sell for around $40 on the ralph lauren site. However i seen it sell on ebay for around 1/2 the price and im sure these are real shirts as they have countless positive reviews. Yes seems very silly paying that much for a tshirt that cost around $15 max assuming it has no logo but i always like the ralph lauren logo.

I was told that these are overpriced even at $22 or so on ebay by others in a forum.

Does anyone know if these ever go on sale in outlets or places? Someone mentioned when these go on sale, it could be $15 or so. Is this true/false? Does anyone know
if ralph lauren outlets have these shirts?

Im from nyc so im curious if there are places to get these for cheaper. I thought $22 was pretty low already on ebay but others say you might even get these for $10 a piece.

This one’s more suited to IMHO rather than GeneralQuestions. Moved.

Since there already was a thread on t-shirts in IMHO, I’ve merged them.
