Hi all, I am looking at buying a vacation home somewhere upstate NY.
I am torn between a house in the mountains in a remote location by (ideally) a stream on a mountainside adjacent to state land but about a 4-7 hr drive from my home.
and
A home that is near to several mountains ranges but not in any of them - no stream and some neighbors but you can’t see them through the trees. and it’s about 10 minutes from the nearest state park, 20 from a rather large state park and 30min from a decent ski area (1 hr to the closest really nice area)
This place has the advantage of being only 2.5 hrs from home and on well maintained roads (till you get to the private rd). I work all over the NYC area and could use this place as a base of operations for Westchester, Putnam, Rockland county while possibly opening up Albany area. Also it’s a 2 h Amtrak ride into NYC where maybe 50% of my clients are.
My interest in this house is to be able to get away from NYC and the suburbs but I want to be able to use it often. The 1st house will be able to get me away from everything but maybe too far to be used all that often. The second I may be able to use often and work out of for long periods of times but may be not ‘far enough away’.
I would like to know if you have a vacation house, how far away it is, how often you use it - any suggestions are appreciated.
