Vaccines

I know how adamant some people are that their children not be vaccinated. If, however, the Canadian (or some other) vaccine for Ebola seems to work and is offered to the general public, how many of these parents do you think will step up with their kids and get them vaccinated?

I think a majority of them will, but perhaps they have stronger convictions in the face of a disease that they can see spreading than I give them credit for.

It would be pretty funny if the anti-vaxxers wanted to get their kids vaccinated against ebola. Children in North America are in much more danger from measles, influenza, tetanus, whooping cough, etc. than they are from ebola.

If someone develops an ebola vaccine, I would hope they’d use it in West Africa, where it’s needed, rather than in North America, where it isn’t.

People in North America are in much more danger from the children of boneheads who won’t vaccinate their children but send them to school, malls, theaters, amusement parks, etc.

I’d think the same argument would be posited- let the child develop natural immunity…(slaps forehead)

If there was a genuine Ebola breakout in the U.S. and an effective vaccine available, I think even antivaxers would find a way around their “convictions” and get the shot.

It might involve semantic dodges like when the question is posed to them about whether they’d get a rabies shot if exposed to a rabid animal. “Well, in that case it’s not really a vaccine, it’s a treatment.”

Vaxxers should be required to get their kids all the standard vaccinations before they get any new ones, particularly since the ones they’re adamant are causing autism are the ones they stopped using years ago, back when they were new…

It’s like a New Yorker cartoon I saw… Two yuppie hikers are sitting on a log in the woods. The guy looks at the woman and says, “All year long we pay through the nose for organic produce, and now you use insect repellent?”

While Ebola conspiracy theories are being floated by loonies including Rush Limbaugh and Louis Farrakhan and being inserted into long-standing obssessions (Ebola is spread by chemtrails, doncha know), antivaxers have also gotten into the act.

The outbreak and spread of a few cases to the U.S. were manufactured/exploited in order to damp down publicity about the CDC "whistleblower’ pseudo-scandal and/or benefit vaccine makers.

If all you’ve got is a hammer, keep hitting yourself in the head with it.

In a leper pit? OK. Or any hermetically sealed environment seperating and containing the children of willfully ignorant parents from those who aren’t.

That would be funny, in the nervous OMG laughing and frightened way. Ten years ago their chances would’ve been lower, but thanks to these idiots these diseases are blossoming.

And even if you’re not vaccinated, you can freeload benefit from herd immunity. Get too many of them together and that goes away. Tragedy of the Commons.

Interesting fact I read earlier: Mississippi has the highest vaccination rates, and Colorado has the lowest. Yeah, smarter states are less rational. I don’t remember which vaccines were referenced. Private schools are especially bad.
