My girlfriend is studying abroad in France this semester while I’m still here in the US, and I really don’t know what to do for Valentine’s Day. I looked into having flowers delivered, but roses cost $100 at the places I found, which is more than I’m willing to spend right now (especially on something that won’t last–not that flowers aren’t lovely or a pleasing gift). How long does mail take to be delivered to Paris? Any ‘Saint Valentin’ advice?
They hate being told they are a broad. Bad start.
Pick anything from amazon.com? Pretty good selection
How about a nice, simple, telephone call?
Well, we talk all the time over Skype (with video, even), so it wouldn’t be that special. A good thought, though.
Since it’s getting pretty late to try to send something, maybe it’s time to start working on a sappy poem that you can email to her.
No - you still have ample time, and a MUCH cheaper way!
Go online and find a flower shop in France, near where your girlfriend lives, and see what they charge, including delivery.
I do this at Christmas for friends in Germany and New Zealand - far easier to find a local shop in their area and pay for it with your Visa/Mastercard and let the locals deliver. That way if there are any problems, it is a simple walk down the street to clarify the matter.
Yeah, I’ll second what DMark said. I had flowers delivered to my ex when she was in France, and simply found a local shop to do it. Of course, she wasn’t in Paris, so flowers will probably still be somewhat pricey there, but they shouldn’t be $100. You may need to speak French to accomplish this, however. If that’s a problem, maybe you could convince a doper to do it for you
Also, isn’t Skype the most fantastic invention to come out of the internet in years? Free video calls to everyone around the world? What could possibly be better than that?
