On the theory that “you don’t get something different until you do something different”, I am going to try something different in the romance department, to end the long drought. No, it’s not polishing my shoes. getting a haircut, or buying new clothes (though I have done those); I am, instead, going to…
…enter a contest .
The Toronto Star is soliciting 600-word essays to explain why you should be one of the ones in their Get A Relationship Challenge.
…what do you do if you don’t want to hang out in bars and you can’t meet someone at work? That question likely haunts some of the one million singles who, according to Statistics Canada, make up almost one-third of the GTA’s adult population…
Here’s your chance. The Star’s Get A Relationship Challenge is opening the window of opportunity for one week. We will accept submissions from single, employed applicants. You must be 30 years of age or older.
If you’re chosen, we’ll help you pick a dating service and we’ll foot the bill.
We will follow you for four to six months, with a reunion six months later to see if your life has changed. We don’t expect miracles, but we’re interested in finding out what it takes to kick-start a love life. You have to be willing to share your search with Star readers, be interviewed once a week about your dating experiences, and have your photo and first name published.
I’m up for it. Maybe a live matchmaker will do better than that online dating service; after all, I’m fairly unusual as men go.
Subission deadline is Friday.
Good luck! It sounds like a fun contest.
If you don’t mind sharing, what kind of angle are you planning to take in your essay?
I don’t really know yet, beyond saying “Here’s where I come from and what I do”. I’m still wondering what Dark Secrets Of My Past, if any, to include.
Well, shoot, there goes my plans to invite you out for coffee.

Hmm, maybe if you tell us a bit more about yourself some of the posters here can give you some suggestions on what to focus on?
Thanks! I’ll see whether I can whomp something up this evening.
Er, ah… um…
