Vampire: The Masquerade

Excellent. This is all great.

Hey, I have the opening to the chronicle I am STing. I’ll post it if y’all want to read it and tell me what you think.

What do you say? I won’t take up the space if no one is interested…

Cool Medea actually I think I’d get along with you too grins I would love to meet some of the people here.

Oh btw peeps I got the proper url (I had our new one wrong in my head for some reason) So here we are The Guild of Imagination crosses her fingers and hopes it works We’re trying to get some people in and stuff… Cumber even joined us there! So if your interested everyone is welcome… as long as they play nice.

Topaz, I reg’d but I haven’t gotten the courage to actually leap in yet.

Lexicon, go for it.

I know this is more GQ but as long as you people are here…

I would like to know the duration for a thaumaturgy ritual. Path of father’s vengance, feast of ashes. Well, a friend of mine who I don’t want here wants to know. (And he asked me…sigh I know so little of Vamp.) Any help you could give would be appreciated.

Topaz, I’m talking with Tom about Acacia. (grin) Maeglin, I’m still to pansy to e-mail people about Pax Romana or my lurking through the WFG. I’ll get there eventually.

True signs of addiction. I’m lugging my books home (the important ones anyway) in bubble wrap. No, I don’t have a life.

I’ve played this game and loved it for 5 years.although I am not too fond of the last two additions to the world(Wraith,Changeling)
I’ve turned every member of my favorite rock band into chars Fleetwood Mac… Stevie\Ravnos…Chris\Hermes…Rick\Euthantos…Billy oredor…John\BoneGnawer…Mick\The ugly ones(can’t remember the clan name)
I’ve G.Med these as well and find the d10 based system the fastest around.it can get lethargic in combat situations, but for giving the players something to do when it can make the difference.auto sucesses help speed the game up a bit.
I’ve run Vancouver as a 2 character system where everyone makes 2 characters each 1Vamp,1Garu.And the 2nd Character is given to a different player(Similar to a Wraiths shadow)The players then had to “Put up with” someone playing “thier” 2nd character.Needless to say when a nosey Toredor got her head lopped by a Tremere having a bad day it produced some interesting results.including lots of fit throwing and apologising…I’ll never do that again
As for the “Power gaming” issue,There are folks who abusethe system wherever you play.THAT happens because a GM is being a pussey to the players and letting them do or have whatever power they please.Power gamers ruin a game for everyone and a sniff of it in my Cronicles assured a swift and blody death for a character (or multiples) untill the Power gamers get the message. No usefull Dilabre opportunities, sparse Ex points,And other methods shoud curtail the Power gamer who dispite all insist they must “WIN”
Happy Hunting to you all

Well, both of the GMs (Jenny Gibbons and Steve/Abbadon) are extremely cool. Are you a member yet? Tell them I sent you.

MR

I ply lots’o vamp.

Lots’o White Wolf, actually. The only one I don’t play on a semi-regular basis is Wraith.

Changeling is my favorite, though.

My friends and I played “The Dark Ages” mostly. That is, when we roleplayed. I enjoyed the VTES card game much better mainly because of its speed. With three of four players in college and working full time, the card game came much easier than roleplaying.

I LOVE the card game.

Oh, and Gangrels suck. Tremere all day.

**

White Wolf produces decent role playing games that are well written, have excellent game mechanics, and plenty of support for their products. But despite this I find that I don’t have much fun playing their games.

When they call their universe the World of Darkness they really mean it. They’ve created their universe by taking our own world and magnifying everyting that is bad about it. That really isn’t all that bad as many games, Cyberpunk for example, are set in a less the stellar past, present, or future worlds

The problem with playing a character in Vampire is that there is very little that is positive. Your characters basic means of survival is to steal vitae from any walking blood bank within reach. Vampires are walking cadavers who do nothing but take, take, take without giving anything in return.

I prefer games where I can have a player character doing heroic things. The good guys defeating the bad guys and all that. The best I can hope for in Vampire is to defeat someone that’s more evil then I am. And that gets a little depressing after a while.

Don’t worry I’m not bashing White Wolf games in general or even Vampire. I also think WW deserves a lot of credit for bringing more female role players into the hobby. I’ve noticed a higher percentage of females in WW gaming groups and more female gamers in general since Vampire came out in 88 or 89.

Marc

I’ve never been able to get into the WW games. Possibly because as MGibson said, the games are generally very dark and depressing. Is a similar reason I generally dislike european games, where it isn’t the bright light against the darkness, it is a dim light versus the overwhelming darkness, no hope, you are damned, so just get used to it.

Im a Vampire fan. cough I know, I know… you never would’ve guessed.

Im actually considering getting a tattoo of the broken Malkavian mirror with the Toreador rose in its reflection.
Not that I obsess… or anything. cough

I play Vampire and Mage… as well as M:tG. Though not in quite some time. I lost track of most of my old gamer friends. =(

Never played D&D though, weird huh? My parents were convinced it was satanic and wouldnt let me near D&Ders in my youth… and by the time I was old enough to get into gaming, no one played it anymore… Whitewolf had kind of taken over.

So yeah. Gamers rule.

I play a Lasombra, he is rather odd and has an infatuation with the Abyss (surprise, surprise) in CB Lasombra it even has a set of rules that allow a Lasombra with high enough Obtenebration to actually enter the abyss! The rules are kind of vague, but my ST is kind of making rulings on what exactly i can do with it. At first i was going to be path of chivalry but after a while i realized that it’s almost impossible to do that as a lasombra, so i changed to a variation of the allied path of night. I love my lasombra, he is a 7th gen who was created in the dark ages where i played him for a while, then the ST said that he was sent into torpor for a few centuries because i royally pissed off my clan. He awoke in modern times. The switch was kind of odd, but my character seems to be handling it well.

I would say that the strongest clan would be Tremere, because of all their thaumaturgy powers. If you get enough paths and rituals then you are unstoppable. I personally like the ONLY level 10 ritual: invulnerable weakness, it is a one year ritual (hey, if you live forever what’s a year?) that makes the vampire immune (yes immune) to sunlight damage. (i think the vampire still gets “sleepy” when the sun starts to come up, but in a sense could make the proper rolls and stay out ALL THE TIME, how cool is that?)

I used to play it. The whole RPG scene just kinda died in my town, though. If anyone’s interested in an online campaign, email me at daleem@alleg.edu[/mail}.

Hmm, I used to play, but it was some weird and wonderful cross of Mage and Vtm that the ST had just kind of blended. My favorite character, the one that was the most fun to play, was a mere mortal stuck in a motley group. ( Besides my mortal, there was one Mage, and 4 Vamps at any given time with an open door to anyone who wanted to join in.) Damn, I miss the guy who did the ST stuff for us, he was fun. Very twisted, and imaginative too.
Miss ya Kev.

Psst… Spinne…

Medea’s Child is on Spring Break and not posting much right now, but you might want to talk to her. Things have changed since December.

Unfortunately, I’m a LARP player and haven’t been able to play much recently since there aren’t many games here in Los Angeles. Not that I can find, anyway. A buddy of mine in Santa Cruz introduced me to it, I played twice (took on the character of his ghoul) and really fell in love with it. Now I’ve got a permanent character all set up (a Ventrue with a mean streak) … and nowhere to play. Anybody with information on Los Angeles games, please let me know ASAP. I’d really appreciate it.

Rico, check out the database at http://www.white-wolf.com …they helped me find my newest group.

Spinne, I found a group for Mage…cool guys. Also, the online game at white wolf is decent.

Hey MC…did you ever join any of the games on the site I suggested?

MR

Medea’s Child: Actually, I’m no longer in the 'burgh. I moved this week. I was more talking about my hometown scene, which hasn’t seen a real game in years.

However, I might be starting a Wraith LARP soon…

Maeglin, no I haven’t. It costs money and I’m always afraid to screw up. I love RPing but I don’t count myself as a serious or even good player. I watch it in awe though.
