Vancouver Farewell Dopefest

Put me down as a probable. Gee, I guess I won’t have to walk around the place while I gather up my courage this time!

I just got the word yesterday that they finally noticed I suck as a telemarketer . Buh bye job. Hey, it only took 'em three years…

Oh well, I get three weeks pay as a severance package, plus a full two weeks plus a day on my regular cheque, so I oughta be fairly flush. Family allowence on Friday too.

I’m still at the zoo though and I might have to do a tour or two. I try not to go in weekends, but the boss will be out of town. I think that’s next weekend though.

Whoo hoo!

Sorry to hear about the telemarketing job, zoogirl. :frowning:

It’ll be good to see you again if you do manage to make it out. By the way, I swear I saw you (or a damned near lookalike) at the Earl’s on Broadway / Fir last night. (yes, I do believe I still remember what you look like!) I don’t think it was you… was it?

Nope. Sorry!

Hey RJK, wazzat you at the New Westminster skytrain station on a Saturday morning about a month a ago?

That’s all right… but she looked very like I remember you! (then again, Barbarian looks almost exactly like my friend Mark… it’s freaky!)

Bumpety bump bump bump!

Hey, Scotticher, ya out there?

By the way, is Zyada going to be here? If not, rats! I’m assuming not.

BTW, Aslan, I don’t drink, so that’ll make two of us. It’s not an age thing though. Hmmm, come to thinkof it, I wish I WAS underage again!

Hey, zoogirl, you should have flagged me down at the station! I go down to the New West Quay at least once a week, and even more now I’m unemployed. (BTW, sorry to hear you lost the job, but I’m glad to hear you gave up telemarketing!) And again, non-drinking is fine. I’m pretty much dry myself these days. Must be old age.

Zyada won’t be here ( :frowning: ) because I’ll be seeing her anyway not long after (   ).

I think I have Scotticher’s phone number here somewhere, and certainly her email, so I’ll make sure to let her know what’s up.

Thanks for the bump, Flam!

I’d have flagged you, but I was on the train going the opposite direction and spotted you on the platform heading back up the hill.

I’g glad to say the job wasn’t nasty telemarketing. All I was doing was calling up past customers for one of the carpet cleaners. No cold calls, just “We were there last year, want us again?” I’m going to miss the people I worked with. It was pretty amicable, but I do feel I got slightly screwed. I’ll explain later.

So, how about a partial list of probables? Who’s in for sure?

Hey, I just went to see if Scotticher might be on the Board and I got quite a shock. She hasn’t posted since *January 6 !?! *

Does anyone know what’s up? I mean the girl’s got a 2.something per day average and suddenly she’s just gone.

???

Did I miss something?

Her computer has been borken - she’s back online now.

Whew! :relieved smiley: Thanks Zyada. I wish you were coming…

Gee, a borken computer, huh? Sounds kinda Trekish. Romulans swipe it or somethin’?

Swedish, I think. I always thought she was a good cook!

"Bork! Bork! Bork! "

A note on March 20:

I can’t do it during the day, but evening is fine. Dinner at 6:00? I’m still looking for suggestions for a place.

I was arranging a moving sale for the next weekend, but it got too big to cope with (as far as my stress level goes, anyway) so I decided to split it up. Now I’m selling off a lot of books on the 20th, and all the other stuff on the 27th, 10-4 both days. If anybody is interested, mail me at the address in my profile and I’ll send directions.

(That’s a new email, BTW, which locked me out when I tried changing it. TubaDiva rescued me. Thanks again!)

May as well split up the sale so it won’t cause you TOO much stress on the one day!

Dinner should be fine… hopefully, your sale goes well. No idea on places, though… the only time I go down to that area is when I’m visiting my friend Shannon. (and then I stay at her house)

Anyone who knows North Vancouver and environs better?

(you know as well I do that I like bumping things, rjk  )

Yes, evening’s fine. Are we doing North Van for sure, or was it just that Lonsdale’s nice for the afternoon?

Aren’t you still in Burnaby rjk? I know Flam’s in Vancouver and I’m in Surrey. I’m good for anywhere bus-able.

Yes, I’m in Burnaby. I have no particular attachment to Lonsdale; it was just a thought since it’s nice for the afternoon.

How’s Broadway sound? There’s that block with the Afghan Horsemen, the Rasputin Russian place, and the Mongolie Grill right next to each other. I haven’t been to any of them. Or anyplace else that someone might suggest.

And don’t forget the book sale!

I’m good with dinner. I’ve never tried any of those restaurants you suggested rjk, but I’ve heard good things about them. Just one question though, how are they for vegetarian food? I’m not horribly picky, so as long as there’s at least one meatless item on the menu I’m fine, but I’d also prefer to be sure that I’m not going to sit down somewhere and discover that there’s nothing I can eat. And on preview, I see that you haven’t been there either, so you don’t know. Anybody else?

And tempting as a book sale is, I’ve already got more books than I know what to do with.

zoogirl, I’m actually in Richmond… but that’s okay!

Hey, I know where that block of Broadway is! Definitely bus-able for me… access by bus = good mojo.

I’ve been to the Mongolie Grill in Richmond, and if the one in Vancouver is similar… that’s some good food.

But anywhere is fine with me… I’m not picky about food.

Ms Macphisto, the Mongoli Grill has vegetarian fare – in fact, just about every time I’ve been there it’s been with a troupe of veggies, which is odd for a place with “Grill” featured prominently in the name.

Be advised that The Grill is just that, though-- there’s only one. You pick and and choose what you want, charged by weight, (there’s a cut rate for vegetarians, if I remember correctly) and then take it to be charred on a big ol’ hot drum they have. Same grill for meat and veggies.

Ah, thanks. At risk of contradicting my previous post about not being horribly picky, it’s more that I just don’t like meat than any ethical thing, so I think I could survive a little cross-contamination. And the Georgia Straight’s restaurant listings say that Afghan Horsemen has veggie food too, so my vote’s for either of those places.
