zoogirl, your joy at this news isn’t hidden very well… is it?
Yeah… I can have dinner with a bunch of people tonight… plans are good.
I actually know the majority of people that said they were going… yay! Besides, I get to enjoy it fully… without that nagging feeling that I really should be somewhere else, y’know?
Nope, I don’t know the busses from Main Station… I plan on leaving at 4:15 or 4:30, taking the B-Line, then the Broadway bus. It’s a route I’ve taken hundreds of times before, so no worries about my getting lost.
(at least I’ve gotten the clothing question taken care of… )
Yes, Skytrain to Broadway Station and get the bus from there. I’ll be leaving home about 4:30 and at Edmonds Station well before 5:00. If you see me there, zoogirl, feel free to flag me down.
Argh-- I’ve been psyching myself up to go out all day, and at this late hour I have to admit that I’m just not going to make it. (Not feeling very well.)
So Larry wimped out merely because he’s deathly ill, but those who attended had a good time.
I met zoogirl at the Skytrain station and we rode in together. We were way too early, so we stopped for coffee at McDonalds, of all places. As we approached the restaurant, we saw Ms Macphisto arrive, although we didn’t know it at the time. Shortly after we sat down and introduced ourselves, Sinshine and Flam came in. Flam had brought me a pair of gifts, a bright red teddy bear with a Canadian flag on his breast and a Canadian coffee mug - very sweet of her! None of us saw Larry’s post before heading out, so we waited for him to be fashionably late, but finally decided we needed our food. (A hint: The hot-and-sour soup tastes OK, but has far too much thickening. Have the chowder.)
When the waitress asked which of us was Cecil Adams, Sinshine told her he’s ‘just our imaginary friend’. She claims she was just stringing the waitress a line, but I dunno. (Flame if you must!)
We chatted about many things, including the zoo that zoogirl works at and the one she has at home that’s so extensive that when she was listing everything that lives with her, she forgot her kids and her husband!
Ms Macphisto was even more charming than her posts here show. It was a great pleasure to meet her.
Sinshine also told us a story that we decided means she saved Johnny Depp’s life. I’ll leave her to fill in the details. She also gave zoogirl and I a ride to the train, which doesn’t measure up to saving a life, but was still nice.
It was altogether an excellent evening.
(And I still have books. Dopers by appointment. Mail me!)
Yep, we had a good time at dinner. Very good conversation, even though I was so very much the quiet one… as per the usual. (why wasn’t I hyper? no idea…)
Thanks for the kind words rjk. I enjoyed meeting everyone, though I was sitting a bit too far away from Flamsterette to really have a chance to talk to her.
My bus ride home was uneventful, and I actually managed to exercize some self-control and not spend any money at Chapters while I was waiting.
Argh-- I’m sorry folks. Now I wish I was deathly ill – as it happens I was just headachy and fatigued. I was napping while you were waiting. What a jerk!
I’m sorry to have missed meeting Ms. Macphisto and zoogirl, regret not seeing Sinshine again, will have to console myself with knowing that Flammy’s not too far away in Richmond, and will have to swing by to give rjk’s books a lookover, by way of apology.
Let me know when you’re in the neighborhood again then! My email address has changed from before, though… Yahoo was giving me WAY too much grief. Hey… now maybe the email client won’t think yours is spam or some mutant killer virus intent on spreading death to the Internet in general.
rjk, I was under the impression that my teasing the waitress was to stay our little secret??? Seeing as she asked which one of us was Cecil, after all. I was, however, mildly tempted to point at you.
Larry, you are forgiven for being sick, but we missed you. Better luck next time?
