Vanished Thread

I replied to a thread last night (in GQ [I think] on DSLRs) that has completely vanished today - did the hampsters have a snack or was the thread deleted for other reasons?

I spent 1/2 an hour on a carefully crafted reply that has disappeared into the ether.

In practically every case where a thread disappears completely, the mods have wished a troll, spammer, or (most likely in this case) a returning sock puppet into the cornfield.

I believe that they prefer that these types of queries be raised by e-mail, to avoid giving further attention to the miscreant.

I don’t know DSLR. Is that something about “single lens reflex” maybe? If so, I vaguely recall a thread title along those lines, but I did a search on “reflex” and didn’t find anything recent.

One possible explanation that has happened to me before is that between the time I clicked on “reply to thread” and got the response ready to submit, the thread was deleted (for whatever reason) by a Mod. I would get a “you can’t do that” sort of message as if the thread were protected from my view or whatever. Later I would determine that it was a timing issue. Many spam threads go away like that.

And I seem to recall at least one case where the reply took and then the whole thread got “disappeared” after a bit. That’s a little more spooky, but it can happen.

Other than those possibilities, I can’t help.

I’ll accept that I got trolled and forgetaboutit :smack:

Sorry about that.

If the subject was interesting/worthwhile to you enough that it should be on the board anyway you could always restart it.
