I’ve still got at least one more progeny to create before the big snip, but I have no qualms about getting it done afterward. I’ve seen both the male and female sterilizations on the The Learning Channel, and guys have it easy.
However, all bets are off when it comes to reversing the procedure. One of the most difficult TV operations I’ve watched. They actually had the nads extra-corporeal (outside the friggin’ body) and were batting them about with Whiffle-Ball bats. Well, maybe not, but man that had my legs crossed.
When I was in the Navy, I was stationed at a family practice clinic on a Marine base in Okinawa. My physician was a female and she, I and another male corpsman were the only ones in the “dependent” clinic. She went through some surgery training and we started offering vasectomies as an outpatient surgery. Our male corpsman wouldn’t/couldn’t assist (his hands kept wanting to grasp his crotch every time the doc mentioned “incision”) so I assisted.
I cannot tell you the irony [sub]correct word?[/sub] I found in seeing some of the world’s toughest, most disciplined men blanch when we laid them down on that table and said, “Okay, now you’ll feel a little poke”. After the surgery, they almost always said, “It didn’t hurt like I thought it would.”

When I had mine done, I guess I was sweating or something because the grounding pad for the cauterizing thingy was not fulled adhered to my side. The result:when the doctor went to cauterize the vas deferens, I got a nice big shock. Bastards. Besides that, the procedure was smooth and not painful, just wierd feeling the tugging and stuff.
I did have to go back to have a sperm cell granuloma removed. This is basically a calcified ball of sperm. It caused a little discomfort, but the first was so easy I went back to have them remove it with no worries.
I would suggest someone be there for sympathy and to get you ice paks and the remote or whatever, but it’s not necessary. Hell, I went to jail the same night I had mine.
I’ve been seriously considering getting one, myself.
I just have one question that I haven’t been able to find an answer to in my online research/ FAQ hunt: How long do you have to wait to put the little general back in service with his blank firing rifle?
My Dr. said that it may take up to a month before your vas is cleared of existing sperm. I was a different case though since I had to have it done twice. My doc said that I was the second one in 500 that he has had to do it twice.
You have to be careful, and you need to be tested after the procedure.
I really didn’t have any problems. Very little swelling, little pain. If you start to feel ANY pain during the procedure, ask for more numb nuts :p.
You might feel some pulling while the doc is up to his work.
I felt comfortable with intercouse in about 5 days. But you must still use protection untill you know everything worked out o.k.
enipla, there are a lot of types of them. I remember they used to have one with a little switch so you could turn it on when you wanted to have a baby. Which kind did you have?
You may be pulling my … um … leg but I seem to remember some sort of valve that was tested years ago.
I went the full route. Remember, I had it done twice. It ain’t gonna be reversed.
I suppose that the Dr. could make it easier to perform a reversal if you wanted by not cutting so much of the vas. But do you want that or do you want to be sure.
You’ve got to be sure.
As I understand, the odds of reversal are low.
IMHO, if you know you don’t want children, and if you’re old enough to know that, there is no reason not to get the snip.
My husband complained of the same thing. Not that he could feel any pain, but that he could feel anything at all. He most certainly did NOT like the feeling of his package being yanked on by someone who wasn’t going to smoke a cigarette with him afterwards.
Husband’s was uneventful. But I found it highly amusing (like, so funny I had to call my mom & tell her) that the urologist’s name was Dr. Wang.
I do like your description of John Wayne in a mine field. Great visual on that.
I didn’t lose a bit of my ‘manhood’ when I had this done. As a matter of fact I feel I am a better man. This is something I did for my wife and myself. A very small sacrifice.
I don’t mean to slap your friend, but my masculinity has always been above my shoulders, not below my waist.
Thanks, enipla. I had heard up to six weeks beofre being allowed to enjoy again. Apparently that was the time to clear the tunnel rather than use the equipment.
I appreciate the input. It might be time for me to make that call now.
Yeah, I know what you mean and he really isn’t a macho kind of guy. I think he was just a little fazed by it all last week - probably just getting his bearings.
The Doc kept mine, it’s his way of insurance, so that if an immaculate conception did occur, the Dr. could be say he held up his part of the bargain, and the husband should check to see if those are his boots under the bed.
When I had mine done, there was a Dr, a nurse, and a new nurse, first day on the job sort of thing, to observe.
So I’m layin’ there, my package out in the spot light and having a little stage fright, nurse #1, compliments me on my close shave, apparently most men don’t do a good job in preparing the snip site. Nurses 1 and 2 start some small talk, Dr asks them if they want to know what he did this weekend, Yes Dr, please tell us.
He proceeds to tell them that he spent most of Saturday sewing up a farmer. This farmer got the front of his pants caught up in some machinery, tore the pants right off of him, along with all the skin on his package.
He then holds up the scalpel, and says “This won’t hurt a bit”.
And it didn’t, other than some tugging and the smell of something burning, it was rather uneventful procedure.
Recovery was few days with my balls in ice, and after that it’s been clear sailing.
