<bump>
bump. And a tip from [sub][sup]zgystardst[/sup][/sub]: if you don’t know how somebody did something, click on Quote at the end of their post; the quote will show any vb codes used in the body of the message.
Here’s a good trick that someone figured out.
You can hide a link inside a smiley. Like so:
Also note that somewhere along the line vB changed the coding for links.
The software will now interpret links whether or not you surround them with quotation marks.
Hi! I’m a Weenie
What’s your sign?
Let’s see if they fixed this bug. The line above should be a link to http://check.bug
Now let’s try a toughie.
Let’s see if they fixed this bug. The line above should be a link to ** http://check.bug **
Nope, my preview says it still fails. Oh well.
Well, I did a search and I can’t see what that is used for. It does more than change the font, or no?
The code function displays type in a fixed font,
helpful for aligning lines.
Here’s an explanation from the vb code list:

And bump again.
is the ‘originally posted by’ tag on some quotes manually typed in or is there a vb code for it?
The *Originally posted by * comes when you use the Quote button under the post. If that’s not working, like for a locked thread, or if you are quoting an outside source and want to use the same format, do it like this.
(I keep this an other useful bits in a Notepad file.)
For example
There’s more examples of quotes and links in this thread:

Bah. Whoever wrote that code is a dweeb. They forgot the newlines at the end of the MIME header.
It should be
#!/usr/bin/perl
print "content-type: text/html
";
print "Hello, shmo!";
Pardon my general moronness, but what’s with this bump madness?
People <bump> a thread that’s in danger of falling off the front page of the board. They may do this because an adequate response to their question has not been given yet, or in the case of this thread, they may just want to keep it in view because it’s useful to others.
It’s a fake reply that forces a threa back to the top of the board.

Sort of like this
(bump)
I’m glad it was bumped. I missed the original posts, and they answered all sorts of questions I had that I couldn’t find answers to in the vB code FAQ. The responses answered a fair number of other questions. Many thanks to all.

**No, it doesn’t. vBulletin escapes the ampersands for you. My apologies, and I withdraw the suggestion. Somebody might point out to vBulletin that they honor HTML character escapes in their preview feature, but not in the final article. **
They work if and only if you submit the page from the preview page.
