bump Why not?
You can also use both the sub and sup codes combined to keep the smaller text on the same line as the larger text instead of above or below it.
I’ll post an example below…
Here’s an example of [sub][sup]using both sub and sup[/sup][/sub] on the same line.
Ok, like I can do all of the above, what I can’t seem to figure out, though is how to do multiple url codes to multiple sites and have it come out in a sentence.
but whenever I’ve tried to get it on
just one line
it’s hard to see that there’s 3 different ones.
I’m not sure I understand.
If so, then don’t. It may LOOK like each link is on a different line when you’re typing because the length of the URLs forces the typing to the next line, but if you don’t actually hit the return key, it will still appear on one line when you post it.
Are you remembering to close each link individually, or are you doing one close tag at the end of the whole thing?
nope, not using the return key, and closed each code. if you put your mouse over the words, you’ll see each one light up individually. so, how do you get them to look different??? and did the quote thing so I could see your coding, and it looks the same as mine. huh.
wring - your coding and Shayna’s do look different to me when I click on “quote”. The difference I see in your coding is that there is a space before and after each caption within the code.
your coding:
[****url=“http://www.cnn.com/US/”] just [****url=“http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/”] one [****url=“http://www.cnn.com/SHOWBIZ/”] line
your coding without the extra spaces:
[****url=“http://www.cnn.com/US/”]just [****url=“http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/”]one [****url=“http://www.cnn.com/SHOWBIZ/”]line
result:
vB takes out extra spaces. That along with your extra spaces is what I think caused the problem. Give it a try.
just one line
By george, I think you’ve done it! thanks much! (it was driving me nuts - can’t tell you how long it took for me to discover another problem I’d had w/multiple url codes, I wasn’t putting in the “” )
Aha - that’s it! wring, vB will underline spaces that are within the coding, but not those that are inbetween separate codes. To get the spaces to appear between each link, do it this way…
[****url=“http://www.sample.url”]text (insert space HERE) [****url=“http://www.sample.url.2”]text (insert space HERE) [****url=“http://www.sample.url.3”]text.
Woo Hoo! You did it! Go You!
My most sincere thanks to both of you!
How does one link to a specific reply to an OP - the links to a specific thread show a “threadid” number, and when I go to the latest unread post I’ve seen (at least I think I have) a “postid”.
Anyway, I couldn’t see any logic to it all, so can anyone tell me how I can link to someone’s specific reply in another (or the same) thread? Or can it not be done…
Fond regards,
Gp
First, you need to get the post ID number. The easiest way is to hover over the “quote” or “IP: Logged” links at the bottom of the post: The URL that shows at the bottom of your screen will end with a number: That’s the one you want. Then, you create a normal URL for the thread. You can either use the standard “threadid=12345&pagenumber=2” format for this, or you can use “postid=54321”. Then, at the end of that URL, you need to append “#post54321”
For instance, your post there is number 1447848, so a link to it would be either
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=50923&pagenumber=2#post1447848
or
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?postid=1447848#post1447848
Excellent - thank you…

bump
I’ll bump this. Don’t make me do it again.
That’d be a good idea, Farmer Oak. There’s no earthly reason to bump a thread that is already on the first page. Please don’t get in the habit of doing this. Okay?
Drat you, Uncle!
Did you not see that I was merely trying to get my name as “Last Post” for a record number of consecutive times?
I was up to SEVEN! And you RUINED it!
Now I have to go back to being witty! And pithy! And Wittily Pithy! And (this is hard) Pithily Witty!
Thanks a lot, Uncle!
Thank you!!!
