VBulletin too short message question

I’m getting the following message when trying to start a new thread on my other computer:

This is happening even though it’s obvious that there is a title and normally long message. This occurs while previewing my post. Obviously I can create a new thread on this computer as evidenced by this thread.

Can anyone help me fix this problem?

The universal salve for all such problems is generally to clear your internet cache and restart your browser. I’m not guaranteeing results but it’s always the first thing you should try.

Posts that are just long quotes, either quoted from this board or another statement placed between quote tags, do not register as long enough. You need to add a few characters of your own. I’ve been caught making that error. Could you be doing something like that?

No, that was not the case.

I’ve tried clearing the cache. If this works, maybe that was it.

Curses!

I can reply but I still can’t post a new thread! Thanks for the suggestions though.

OK, it appears that FoxReplace Add-On is causing the “The message you have entered is too short”.

This is really a bummer because I really get some satisfaction out of replacing unwanted, unnecessary and arrogant signatures with a funny one. That is why we can turn off signatures in the first place. I think we should not allow such behavior.

Can you disable it for particular sites? If so, disable it on http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/newthread.php?do=newthread*. If it won’t accept wildcards, replace the * with &f=1, and then add more entries for the other numbers up to 8. That should cover all the “New Thread” addresses for all the non-Chicago forums. Use 18, 26, 27, and 28 for the Chicago ones (including “The Barn House”, which I consider more a part of SDC).

Well, I realized after I posted that that I had the extra time, and so I went ahead and downloaded the plugin. Turns out you can do this by following these directions
[ol]
[li]Go to Tools -> FoxReplace -> FoxReplace Options to open your list.[/li][li] Choose the filter that works on the SDMB, and click edit[/li][li] Add the following “URL” Make sure to include the hyphen at the beginning.[/li] -http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/newthread.php?do=newthread
[li] After clicking OK, make sure it appears in red in the main list.[/li][/ol]
