Veep announcement [Romney picks Paul Ryan]

Yes, and the GOP base is the elderly, not high-income earners like many think (Obama won that group).

This is big.

The Huffingtonpost claims Romney has picked Paul Ryan.

So six am on the West Coast. Odd timing.

Am I invisible here?

I concur; Romney agrees to anything that pays well enough, especially when the choice is made for him. He’ll be able to blame the GOP ‘machine’ when he* writes about his final failed bid for the Presidency called, ‘Not For All The Money In The World’.
ETA - the news just cut in to say it’s Ryan; the announcement will be made on the USS Wisconsin docked in Norfolk and there’s a plane near Ryan’s home to fly him there in the morning.

  • Not him but a ghostwriter w/ a strong stomach

NBC broke into the Olympics (I’m in LA) to say three sources say it’s Ryan.

If it is Ryan, I don’t think it’s a good move. If Romney wants to win, he has to appeal to swing voters, and I don’t see Ryan doing that. Yes, Ryan can likely help bring in campaign money, but I don’t seem him adding many votes that were not going to be be for Romney anyway. Kinda like preaching to the choir. He’ll get a chorus of Amen that accomplishes little.

RR? Thats gonna be a crazy train. Zing!

It’s a hugely risky pick. but if this works, it pays huge dividends for the GOP. If they win, they have a mandate to cut entitlements, because that will be what the election is about.

CNN’s website mentions a private plane with unknown occupants that flew from Ryan’s hometown to the announcement area. Romney can pretty much forget about kayfabe at this point. Looks like Ryan’s the guy. I suspect Obama supporters are happier about this than I am.

Merged threads.

I think us Obama supporters will get over our glee after we start seeing just how much money a Ryan VP pick is going to bring in.

The best part about a Paul Ryan pick is that it makes both sides equally happy. And it means both sides will want to debate policy going forward instead of personalities.

That means an unusually substance filled election, which can only be a good thing.

He’s Catholic; it’ll be interesting to see how much more of a part religion will play since many LDS get upset when others draw comparisons between the two religions.
He also voted for TARP and the automotive bailouts, as well as expanding Medicare Part D prescription drug expansion.

I dunno. I think this pick has serious potential to energize the base. Obama’s base. He gets to work babyface against budget slashing heels…or at least that’s how his campaign is going to present it, and that just might work.

I don’t suppose you were trying to be funny but reading this did make me laugh. Debate policy that’s a good one.

Why not? Democrats will think that making the election about Ryan’s budget plans is the best strategy, won’t they? And if Republicans nominated him, that’s obviously what they want to talk about as well. If it’s not, it was the dumbest idea ever to pick him. You don’t pick Paul Ryan if you don’t want to talk about entitlements.

The important question is: who’s going to play Ryan on SNL?

Adam Sandler in a comeback.

You don’t pick Mitt Romney if you don’t want to talk about Bain Capital. And yet…
