Vegas Dopefest 2000 Sept 1 - 4 Official thread

Well, here’s my Friday play on the trip – pardon me I am stuffering from lack of sleep, many beers and this bing, bing, bing sound from slot machines so my post may be choppy.

Friday Night – techchick’s version:

I arrived there, 40 minutes late after experiencing panic attacks before I even arrived at Denver International. Got my tickets and headed straight for the smoker’s/drinker’s lounge.

After sucking down two Hienekens I was loose and feeling much better about the situation. I also learned about self flushing tiolets and odd thing really, your butt lifting off the seat area triggers it to flush – too cool.

Anyhow, I arrived at the hotel and Silo was waiting for me at the main entrance. I checked in and Silo and I went to check out my king suite. We headed down to the main casino and played a few slots. After looking at my cell phone I realized that I wasn’t getting a signal so we headed towards the front of the building.

While walking through the front casino an older lady stopped us to give us freebie stuff. She was asking us questions and one of the first things that came out of her mouth was “Is this your husband?” Silo and I looked at each other giggled and sort of explained to her we weren’t.

After a while we headed up and took a 6 pack of beer since my phone was being fickle.

Slowly but surely more Dopers starting showing up:

beatle
Irishman
Strainger
Narile
rjk

Zyada was missing in action and Padeye and friend were doing their own thing for the night.

There was more beer drinking and a few more before we headed off to eat dinner (at 11:30 pm). Basically it was a “get to know you” night. We all connected like old friends though and by the end of the trip we all became even better friends.

We then went and played a few slots and decided to connect Saturday morning.

Saturday – from techchick’s perspective

Some of us connected for breakfast – somehow we didn’t connect with Strainger and Padeye and friend did their own thing. After breakfast we all headed out on the strip.

Since I only had four hours of sleep I was feeling a little punchy, but off we went.

rjk, beatle, Irishman, Silo, Narile, Zyada and I hit a few of the casinos for a while. We ended up at The Aladdin which was a tripy place. Bing, Bing, Bing, we walked into Paris to check it out.

While a few of them decided to take a look around several of us sat at some slots and played a while. beatle broke a machine and it was a big production for them to put more money in it so it could pay him the rest. Okay he didn’t break the bank but it was pretty hilarious.

We all headed to The Aladdin Hotel and Zyada taught the two actors in front of the hotel a belly dancing move – yes I have a picture.

We walked around the hotel for a while and in the shop area was a store called FCUK. Of course I have a picture of that – I do have Photoshop you know. :wink:

After a while I was pretty pooped so I split for the hotel to rest a while and let the rest of them

Saturday Night:

OY, where to start.

We all gathered in my suite 7:30 - 8:00 pooled our resourced together, one group made a run to get alcohol ($70 something dollars worth) and called for pizza.

beatle showed up in blue striped boxer shorts, a white button up, tie and jacket!!!

Now, here’s where things get a little fuzzy ( hehe ).

Padeye and friend brought up a boom box, coolers and split for a while to watch Legends in Concert. The rest of us drank beer and ate pizza, chatting and jamming to music.

As the night went on, Zyada snuck off to the bathroom and changed into her belly dancing costume and gave us quite a sensual show. I think the guys all had boners but I didn’t have a chance to notice because I was taking pictures.

She was kind enough to give me some lessons though, this I think even got the guys members to rise even a little more. Hey, two women gyrating in front of six men has got to at least break a sweat, it was semi-bachlor party like except we kept our clothes on.

We crammed seven people in the tub of my suite (there was a big mirror above the tub. The picture isn’t great because we had to forego the flash but it’s funny none-the-less.

After a while, Padeye and female friend showed up and we were all pretty looped by this time. Everyone had on their Wally buttons so we decided to pass around the bottle of tequila and each took a shot in his honor. I about puked - yes we have pictures. (We love you Wally)

Several of us got up and danced. beatle did some air guitar, guitar with the tequila bottle and guitar with a cigarette.

As the night progressed I became more and more drunk so I am relying upon the following notes to help you with a clearer picture:

Narile’s dad worked at Wright Air Force Base - been in ‘Hanger 18’.”

beatle lost his pants – jammin out in his boxers – carrying on a serious discussion on stock trading”

“We didn’t get enough pizza! I wanted 3 pepperonis but NOOOO.”

Zyada gave us a show – belly dancing galore”

"Buttons! Thanks Baglady

techchick gave it a shot! Wally pin holding it on!”

“Belly dancers live and die by safety pins – Zyada

“OPA – Holy shit, look at that”

“Yalla – Go, Come on.”

“Iowa – Yeah Baby.”

Zyada’s favorite is ‘Turkish Abuse’ You got to get isolation because next thing is you lay her. (That’s layer)”

Strainger putting on Zyada’s outfit – skirt and tie top.”

beatle giving tip.”

Strainger experiments with alternative lifestyles. Truth is Strainger than fiction.”

“The drunks took over the balcony – yelling at strangers.”

“You better have gottn laid Whammo!”

“Fuck the neighbors”

“My hand smells like lighter fluid – Strainger

beatle is juiced.”

“I know how to stick it in there but not in my camara – techchick

Strainger has pterodactyl toes! – **techchick[/]”

beatle walking in the hall – three people saw him – ‘may you have an erection.’”

“Holes in tech’s ceiling – I’m thinking kinky sex”

“No, it takes much longer than that – Padeye.”

Narile says ‘Please do not try to hang from the sprinkler heads’ regarding a hotel for sci fi con.”

==================================

Okay that’s enough for this kid at the moment, Ms. techchick is tired and wants to read through some threads and watch football. I will post another update as my brain becomes more coherent

…and will remember them later but I wanted to say this:

Thank you to all that came. (Strainger, Silo, Narile, Zyada, rjk, beatle, Irishman, Padeye and girlfriend and Doctordec.) I had an awesome time and will never forget meeting you all. Thank you for the “techchick!” hat, it means a lot to me. You all are good people and I hope to meet up with you all again and soon!

Attn: Sneak peek, only one page has been updated but this is what you folks have to look for!

Okay, now I’m really sorry I couldn’t go. Then again, I could’ve gone shopping for a mid-range computer on the money I would’ve spent for plane fare. :wink:

I wanna hear more stories from everyone else!

Techchick says “Thank you to all that came.”

I’m sure that all who came say “Thanks for the invitation!” It was a great weekend!

Well it was a blast!

Don’t worry peoples (that didn’t attend), we have something on the order of like 200-300 pictures taken total (some really really funny ones too). So we have lotsa pix to put up. Most of them should be up pretty soon. I’m gonna go get mine devoloped and scanned tomorrow.

I forgot to give thanks:

Everyone, we all had a great time.

Techchick, for all the planning, coordination, and organization.

And of course Baglady, for the Wally buttons. Fantastic job!
(I placed the button next to my computer :))

Okay, I added a bunch of pictures.

I apologize in advance to those of you (like me) that has a crappy connection but the pictures are worth it – well I think so.

So go check them out!

I have more to add but I wanted to get pictures up now and then add things later!

tehe

Thanks for sharing the pictures Techhick! I laughed my butt off looking at some of them. Nice to see some of these people cut loose.

That looks like so much bloody fun I’m kicking myself for not getting my butt in gear earlier so I could have joined you guys.

My personal feeling is that Strainger’s pic on the SD People Pages should be changed to the pic of him in belly dancing gear. He looks so clean cut on the people pages, and I think it’s only best to show everyone his true personality.

I LOVE those pictures!!! It looks like you guys had a great time!!!

DAMMIT! Now I’m REALLY sorry I didn’t go and share a room with him! :slight_smile:

No time to do this right. I’ll come back after I pull together my tale. For now just let me say that it was fun! Good job on the site Techy. To everyone that was there, wasn’t that awesome? To Whammo - putz! To those of you who didn’t go, shame on you. (Wasn’t ChiefScott supposed to be there?)

And thanks to baglady for the cool buttons. Thanks again to Techy for organizing this bash. Thanks to beatle for being a great roomie. Thanks to Techchick for - oh wait, I wasn’t supposed to mention that. :wink:

And no matter what Zyada says, I was NOT hitting on the grandma!

Whew! I don’t know what to say!

A day or so of rest and the fog begins to lift…

Well, I do know how to start out. Kudos to [techie for the organizational and inspirational efforts and to baglady for the WallyM7 buttons (GREAT JOB!).

As techie noted above, this group (as has usually been the case in my dozen doper meetings) clicked - in fact we clicked very well. We sloshed well, too. And bumped. And laughed, quite well, in fact. Everybody had their place in the spectrum (well, if you’re talkin’ spectrum, I guess you must have endpoints (What techie? That wasn’t enough to burn the photos?)).

It was a lot of fun. It was three days long, so I think we reached some tacit agreement that, in lieu of the court reporter format that follows many dope fests, we’d all try to throw in a little. Besides the bacchanalian endeavors, which were tres satisfying, we explored Las Vegas a bit. As it turned out, although the gaming spirit abounded, none of the group was a true 22 hours at the blackjack table sort.

And you don’t have to be such to get a hoot out of Vegas (although a recurring thought was that, if Disney was about decadence, Vegas is what you’d get). In light of the rapidity with which one can vaporize $50 on the slots, or the insidious coin push machines, the New York New York roller coaster was a bargain. Irish and I peeled off from the group and did that - damn I’d do that again and again - great ride! And the next day, Silo, Irish, Strainger and I did the Stratosphere Big Shot (I believe Mike has a picture) - better than booze!

Quick flashes:

zyada - z-babe and I have met several times now; she’s a credit wherever we go - and I think she had a good time and she deserves as much;
techchick68 - whoohoo! She said as much in an earlier post to this thread, but I’ll emphasize that she made me feel at home right away (I’m sure the photos she failed to burn reveal how much she made me feel intimidated - love ya’ babe);
Irishman - my roomie for the trip, we’ve met several times now. Irish marches to his own drummer and he does it very well - a class act; I’m glad to count him amongst my friends. I mean that.
Strainger - and I’ll bet a lot of you thought I was an endpoint on the spectrum. Second time we’ve met and I’ll have to confess - he’s clever about how he wears that clean-cut look (a good fella);
rjk - Man! A pleasant surprise! rjk is Bob IRL and he is just like your old friend from high school. Weyburn Rules!!!
Silo - what can I say about Mikey? We grilled him about the troll days and, while he did explain where he was coming from at the time, there really wasn’t any justification outside of ignorance of the board. He knows he fucked up, and I’ll give him credit for staying the course to mend his affronts and meet his accusers. There is some (in fact, very much) value in the guy and I doubt we’ll see him fuck up again. He is young (22 I believe, correct me if I’m wrong, Mike) and quite intelligent. Mike, I admire you for sticking around and I’ll say that I think your cognizant enough to understand that I hope you won’t make me bite the rubber turkey for sticking up for you. I do think you’ve got some contributions to make, and, IRL, you’re actually a very nice person.
Narile - brought a lot of background to the film industry and particularly the sci-fi dimension - we’ve really gathered some resources here, folks, Narile is evidence of that;
padeye and Ann - Egad! A rare chance to meet one of our better posters and I hardly got to talk to him - I think I actually talked to Ann a bit more. The bit I got was enjoyable and I look forward to our further discourse, paddy;
doctordec - glad to see him, but he vanished after an hour and a bottle of wine;
beatle - who let that wallflower into the party?
Whammo - schwammo - you get laid, man?

SHEESH!!!

I just reread my posts and fer God’s sake I was totally incoherent!

Sorry folks. After several days of Vegas, booze and few hours of sleep throughout the trip I really shouldn’t have posted. In fact my brain is still in Vegas mode – I wish we all could have stayed a few more days, although Strainger is still there for a business training. I should have called the dog kennel and told them I had to stay for a few more days!

Well, I look forward to seeing the other SDers comments on the trip. By the pictures I think it’s easy to summarize we had an awesome good time.

BTW folks, just an FYI, I spent less than $900 on the entire trip (including airfare of $348, hotel of $325.) I was too into hanging out with my Doper buddies to be gambling. Most of my other expenses came from: food, beer, dog kennel, parking at DIA, taxi, shuttle, gas for driving to DIA, etc.

Food was reasonable, hotel was reasonable, and over all it was not all that bank breaking. So, when a new thread pops up in a few weeks, start saving your money, getting your vacation time and all that jazz.

BTW, smooches go out to all my new found Doper Friends, you people absolutely jam. You are fun, intelligent and like I said before I hope to connect with you all sometime soon!

beatle said:

< techie turns her head sideways and wonders…what? >

Sorry beatle hun, I don’t get this one, I need sleep in a big way and this one flies over my head like a bird in the sky. :slight_smile:

Hehehe, I’m 21.

Well I’ll give my trip summary soon…been so busy since I got back.

Sake’ will do that to ya.

Aw, I ended up gaming downstairs and next door at O’shea’s,it gets kinda foggy after that. Well, it was Vegas after all. Good talking to all of you. And a big thanks to TC68, great web pics, too! See ya next year !

The full name of the store is French Connection UK. It’s a chain - there’s one across the street from my job - the clothes are pretty nice.

Sounds like you guys had an awesome time - love the mirrors over the tub and bed. So dish some gossip - who hooked up with whom? And why is Beatle wearing boxer shorts and a tuxedo shirt?
